MITCHELL MOVES QUICK FOR NEXT FIGHT

28.04.04 – Fresh from his first round victory on Saturday night in Reading, featherweight ace KEVIN MITCHELL moves to quick to have his next fight on Thursday 13 May at London’s York Hall. ‘Mighty’ Mitchell took his record to 6-0 with four first round stoppages against Frenchman Eric Patrac who could not cope with the youngster’s fast hands and power-punching.

The fight ended bizarrely in the first round as Patrac went down on one knee after Mitchell landed one of his hard combinations but when he got up claimed that he had pulled his shoulder at which the referee waved the fight over.

The 19-year-old wonder boy is increasing his following with each fight and is excited about returning to the home of British boxing, the scene of his London and Senior ABA wins in the amateur ranks.

Mitchell also had his first pro fight at the York Hall in February with a win over Kristian Laight and brought over 400 supporters with him. More are expected this time.

“I’m looking forward to fighting at the York Hall again because it’s a fantastic venue with a great atmosphere and I will certainly bring a big crowd to watch me. My aim is to become the next big name in British boxing. My idols Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe are at the top now but the future is definitely me.” Said the confident Dagenham lad.

He continued, “I’ve been to Ricky’s and Joe’s fights and the atmosphere in the arenas are incredible. With my exciting style I know I can become a big attraction like them and my following is increasing with each fight. I aim to do in London what Ricky and Joe have done in Manchester and Cardiff and bring the big crowds back to the capital. It’s ambitious but my dream is to defend a World title at the new Wembley stadium,”

Despite his first round victory over Patrac, Mitchell wasn’t happy with the win, “It was a strange ending and I wasn’t happy with it. I could see that he was hurt and I was going in for the finish but then he went down and said he had an arm injury. I like to end my fights conclusively with a knockout and this is what I will be doing in my next fight.” Finished Mitchell.

Mitchell’s opponent will be confirmed shortly.

TAKALOO headlines the card when he challenges for the Vacant WBU World Light-Middleweight title against an opponent to be named shortly.
