Omar Sheika to battle E.T. Whitaker in Light Heavyweight bout

27.04.04 – CN8, The Comcast Network returns to the ring airing an exclusive boxing competition from South Philadelphia’s recently renovated New Alhambra, SATURDAY, May 15 at 7:30 PM/ET. This CN8 boxing broadcast features an action-packed night of fights, with the main event showcasing Omar Sheika battling E.T. Whitaker in a 10-round light heavyweight bout.

The Sheika-Whitaker battle will headline opening night at the newly renovated New Alhambra Sports & Entertainment Center, a 1,300-seat complex located at Swanson & Ritner Streets in South Philadelphia. Twenty-seven year-old Omar Sheika hails from Paterson, NJ and E.T. Whitaker, 31, from Warren, OH. Sheika has been a pro since 1997, featuring a 23-6 record with 16 knockouts. Whitaker, a pro since 1999, has a 10-12-2 record with 19 knockouts. Also featured in eight-round contests will be undefeated heavyweight John Poore of Boothwyn, PA, and featherweight Rogers Mtagwa of Philadelphia. The event is being put together by veteran Philadelphia boxing promoters J. Russell Peltz and Joe Hand.

Covering the action round-by-round will be color commentator Michael “Silk” Olajide, Jr., former WBC Intercontinental Middleweight Champion, creator of the Aerobox fitness program, and fight technician on movies such as Ali; longtime boxing reporter Larry Michael, a Showtime Championship Boxing and Olympic commentator; and CN8’s own Pete Christy, who will be doing ringside interviews. This event will be broadcast to CN8’s Mid-Atlantic and New England markets, covering 6.2 million homes.
