DaVarryl Williamson squares off against Elicier Castillo for the N.A.B.F. Heavyweight Title

11.04.04 – Tampa, F.L. – In what promises to be an explosive night of boxing, DaVarryl ‘Touch of Sleep’ Williamson (19-2, 17) returns to the ring on Saturday, April 17 and will square off against Elicier Castillo (26-3-2, 14) in a twelve-round bout at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa, Florida. At stake is the North American Boxing Federation (N.A.B.F.) heavyweight title.

Originally scheduled to face one another in October 2002, Williamson was forced to withdraw from the fight to handle a family illness. The two fighters were again scheduled to face one another on Jan. 17, 2004, but Castillo was forced from the bout with an ankle injury. Hopefully the third time will be the charm and fans should be treated to an explosive bout as this can be viewed as a crossroads bout for both fighters. Williamson appeared on the Jan. 17 card and stopped the rugged Kendrick Releford (8-4-1) in the ninth round. Castillo has been on a roll lately, a winner in nine of his last ten outings, including successive wins over Lawrence Clay-Bey and Corey ‘T-Rex’ Sanders.

The 6’4”, 225 lbs. Williamson possesses one of the most lethal right hands in the heavyweight division, with 17 of his opponents finishing the fights staring up from the canvas. “People wanted to write me off, and say that I was done, but I know in my heart what I am capable of, and I still believe that I will be the first of the Young Heavyweights to win a major title” said Williamson. “April is a huge month for heavyweights, the division should continue to shake out, separating the pretenders & contenders and I fully expect to amongst the Top 10 after this fight.”

The 6’1”, 215 lbs. Castillo (W.B.C. #9, I.B.F. # 14, W.B.O. #11) is a slick southpaw with a concrete chin, having never been stopped in his 31 fight career. His only losses have come against stiff competition in the form of I.B.F. Champion Chris Byrd, former W.B.A. Champion Tim Witherspoon and W.B.O. title challenger Charles Shufford.
