Carl Froch, A modern day great?

froch11Carl Froch(31-2,22ko’s), Britain’s pound for pound number one is currently riding the crest of a wave. His win over Mikkel Kessler(46-3,35ko’s) catapulted him into the general public’s attention and has solidified him as being one of Britain’s greatest and most entertaining fighters. Had Froch had the publicity earlier on in his career as Amir Khan had and the likes of Luke Campbell and Anthony Joshua are now obtaining, who knows how much of a star the Nottingham man may have become.

As it is however, Carl has finally reached the top and is now bankable box office draw. The question is though, is Carl Froch, and can he ever become, a modern day great. In years to come will he be remembered as fondly as the likes of Eubank, Benn, Lewis, Hatton and Calzaghe.

Floyd: I’ll fight Pacquiao if he signs with Mayweather Promotions

pac3Floyd Mayweather Jr. is no longer setting a condition that Manny Pacquiao turn his career around before he’ll fight him. That was what Mayweather Jr. had previously asked for Pacquiao to do before he’d agree to fight, given that Pacquiao has lost his last two fights.

Mayweather Jr. now wants Pacquiao to sign with Mayweather Promotions before he’ll agree to fight him. Pacquiao currently is signed with Top Rank though 2014.

Mayweather Jr. said to Yahoo Sports “I’m just letting you know that he’s not getting a fight with me. The only way he’s getting a fight with me is if he signs with Mayweather Promotions. He’s got to give me fights with Mayweather Promotions. If he don’t give me no fights under Mayweather Promotions, then he’s not getting the fight. That’s how it’s working now.”

Broner to Danny Garcia: F**k that dude [Matthysse] up; I’ll get the other Argentine [Maidana]

broner544For the first time WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) revealed that he could be facing the hard hitting Argentinian challenger Marcos Maidana (34-3, 31 KO’s) next rather than vacating his title and ducking the fight like a lot of boxing fans think Broner will do.

Broner sent a twitter of encouragement today to WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia, telling him to beat his scheduled September 14th opponent Argentinian Lucas Matthysse (34-2, 32 KO’s), and that Broner would then take care of the other Argentinian, meaning Maidana.

Building The Perfect Heavyweight!

Begging the pardon of Alexander Povetkin (who gets the next shot), the David Haye-Tyson Fury winner, Deontay Wilder and the tough and avoided Kubrat Pulev, but no-one looks like defeating heavyweight king Wladimir Klitschko. Older brother Vitali, if he risks his fine record by sticking around too long and battling Father Time might, just might, be the victim of a young fighter being smack bang in the right place at the right time, but “Dr. Steel Hammer” looks set to walk away having remained unbeaten since way back in April of 2004.

Schaefer thinks Mayweather-Canelo will break PPV record

can44343312351312Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer sees the September 14th Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight card as having a great shot at beating the 6-year old PPV mark of 2.4 million buys set by Mayweather himself against the original “Golden Boy” Oscar De La Hoya in 2007 near the end of Oscar’s career.

Shaefer took a step in the right direction to break the PPV record with the addition of Lucas Matthysse vs. Danny Garcia to the fight card earlier today. That’s going to help but I’m not sure if it’s going to help enough.

Manny Pacquiao: “I’m not a has been, I can still win fights!”

pac8It has been a while since Manny Pacquiao said anything of substance, or really anything at all. For some time now, Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been doing all the talking when it comes to Manny Pacquiao, recently stating:

“Pacquiao’s a has-been, his career is over; (but Juan) Manuel Marquez is a legend (and I commend him).”

Huck has unfinished business with Arslan

Marco Huck, Firat ArslanThere is some unfinished business between Marco Huck (36-2-1, 25 KOs) and Firat Arslan (33-6-2, 21 KOs). On November 3 of last year the two fighters squared off at the Gerry Weber Stadion in Halle/Westphalia, Germany, for the WBO Cruiserweight World Championship. Back then Huck won a close decision on points. However, Arslan saw himself ahead after the full twelve rounds.

“In our mind, this battle is a question of honor,” said Chris Meyer, Managing Director of Sauerland Event during Thursday’s press conference. “Both boxers saw themselves as the winner. But there is an easy way to end this debate, a rematch. That way Huck as well as Arslan now have the opportunity to prove who deserves to be called world champion.”
