Berto Seeking to Wipe the Slate Clean

After he gave a spirited effort in his ultimately unsuccessful challenge to Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas last month, Andre Berto is seeking to get right back in the mix, and claims he would love to reverse the losses on his record in as quick a time as possible.

The former WBC welterweight champion (30-4, 23ko) has now lost four of his last seven fights, beginning when he dropped his green belt to Victor Ortiz in their 2011 thriller, followed by a 2012 UD loss to Robert Guererro and a 2013 KO at the hands of fringe contender Jesus Soto Karass.

Beterbiev/Murat Set for Right to Face Kovalev

Undefeated Russian contender Artur Beterbiev (9-0, 9ko) will face German-based Armenian, Karo Murat (27-2-1, 17ko) on the Nov 28 DeGale/Bute bill in Quebec, Canada, in an IBF final eliminator to determine the mandatory challenger to Beterbiev’s countryman and old amateur rival, Sergey Kovalev.

It was initially supposed to be Sullivan Barrera in the opposite corner to Beterbiev, though when the unbeaten Cuban had to pull out after experiencing Visa issues, his friend and teammate, Yunieski Gonzalez – last seen dropping an entertaining, yet debatable decision to Jean Pascal in Canada back in July – was offered the opportunity by the IBF, although it’s transpired he too has passed up the chance in favour of a different – undisclosed – option, paving the way for Murat.

Linares Defends in Venezuela Tonight Against Ivan Cano

WBC lightweight champion Jorge Linares, (39-3, 26ko) defends his title against Mexico’s Ivan Cano (23-6-2, 15ko) at home in Venezuela tonight, in what will be only his 4th fight in his native land over the course of his 13 years as a professional.

The Golden Boy promoted Linares – who resides in Japan – has said he is relishing the opportunity to box in front of his home fans and has promised that after he beats Cano tonight, he will continue to dominate at 135 lbs for some time to come.

James DeGale Primed for Bute Clash

IBF super-middleweight champion, James DeGale, is relishing the task of beating former champion Lucien Bute in his Canadian backyard on November 28, claiming that when he does so he wants the big names in the division next.

DeGale, newly signed to Al Haymon and coming off of his triumphant title win over Andre Dirrell in Boston back in May, is venturing out of the UK once again to fight the 35 year old Bute, who was knocked out by Carl Froch back in 2012 and is fighting to save his career against the Beijing 2008 gold medalist.

While Pacquiao’s possible impending retirement is a hot topic in boxing, his next opponent is also of much interest. Since it is assumed that Pacquiao doesn’t have much time left in the sport of boxing, although it is hard to say when he will actually hang em’ up, boxing fans are hopeful for a few good fights.

Nothing Doing Re: Wilder/Jennings

For the last few days a persistent rumour has circled on social media that oft criticised WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder was seeking to squeeze in a fight with countryman and former Wladimir Klitschko foe, Bryant “By By” Jennings.

Wilder is due to face mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin in his next bout, and with Povetkin himself fighting next month in Russia against Mariusz Wach, it’s reported Wilder’s team – including elusive ‘adviser’ Al Haymon – are keen on him squeezing in one more voluntary defense before that time, however, should it happen, that WILL NOT be against Jennings.

George Groves Hunting for New Trainer

British super-middleweight contender George Groves has officially stated that he is on the lookout for a new trainer after splitting from Paddy Fitzpatrick in the wake of last month’s WBC title loss to Badou Jack.

In a bizarre twist of fate, the Sauerland promoted fighter conceded to Sky Sports that he would be receptive to the idea of working with former Carl Froch cornerman and Team GB head coach, Robert McCracken, despite the perceived history of ‘bad blood’ between the two camps.
