Jorge Linares Snubs Kevin Mitchell Rematch / Fighting Ivan Cano in Venezuela

After their thrilling fight back in May resulted in a heroic Kevin Mitchell (39-3, 29ko) getting stopped in the tenth round (despite being up on two scorecards), WBC lightweight champion Jorge Linares (39-3, 26ko) has snubbed a rematch with the Englishman, and will fight unheralded Mexican Ivan Cano (23-6-2) on October 18th instead.

It was made clear in the immediate aftermath of May’s fight that Linares would be returning to Venezuela to make his next defence, and his team were thought to be open to the possibility of a second fight with the Dagenham man.

Joshua (13-0, 13 KOs), the orthodox knockout destroyer from Watford, Hertfordshire is seen as an emerging contender in the heavyweight division. He went 7-0 last year with all of his fights ending in a knockout, most of them in the first round. He defeated veteran countrymen Matt Shelton and Michael Sprott, as well as Denis Bakhtov for the WBC international heavyweight title. This year he took out three more opponents, Jason Gavern, Raphael Love, and world title challenger Kevin Johnson all before the third. His opponents have yet to reach the fourth round. At an impressive six feet six inches and approximately 240 pounds, the former 2012 United Kingdom Olympic Super Heavyweight Gold Medalist is an ideal size for his division and always displays his fantastic conditioning with great agile footwork, speed, and a commanding jab. Finchley heavyweight and former world title challenger Dereck Chisora (21-5, 14ko) has insisted that the fight he would like the most is against new EBU champion Erkan Teper(15-0, 10ko), (to whom he is mandatory) the man who recently knocked Liverpool’s David Price out cold in Germany inside two rounds.

Mayweather: Everybody is Overlooking Berto / The Betting Odds Should be Closer

Watching the latter day Floyd Mayweather in interviews and at media scrums is a little bit like watching a small child who has been told by it’s mother – “think carefully before you speak,” such are the deliberate pauses for careful consideration every time he opens his mouth these days.

The delay each time he’s asked a question grows more amusing every time he is interviewed, and if there were silence you’d probably hear the sound of distant tumbleweed blowing around inside his skull such is the intellectual capacity of the media-trained, self-professed “Best Ever.”

Ricky Hatton: Kell Brook vs Amir Khan Makes Sense…

Ricky Hatton: Kell Brook vs Amir Khan Makes Sense...

Britain’s former 2 weight world champ Ricky Hatton, who himself boxed both Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas, has spoken out to the ‘expressandstar.com’ to suggest that if “jilted bride” Amir Khan cannot secure the mega fights he craves with either of the two P4P giants, then he should just do what most right thinking fans want him to do – fight IBF 147 lb champion Kell Brook.

Khan has ostensibly talked himself out of a Floyd fight for good, even if “Money” goes for the 50-0, and so has now turned his attentions to trying to secure a big-money fight against the now 37 year old Filipino star instead.

In response to pleas from British fans in particular, Khan keeps saying he will fight Brook at some point “in the future,” when the champion fights what he deems big enough names.

YouTube video
New WBO lightweight champion “Turbo” Terry Flanagan (28-0, 11ko) hasn’t got an easy 1st defence of the title he won last month in Manchester, with the unbeaten Brit set to face solid American former world title challenger Diego Magdaleno (28-1, 12ko) on the Queensbury Promotions October 10th bill from the M.E.N Arena, Manchester, UK.

Promoter Frank Warren revealed on Friday as part of the “Bunce’s Boxing Hour” show on Boxnation that Flanagan would be fulfilling his mandatory obligations immediately after capturing the vacant WBO 135lb strap against Jose Zepeda, who dislocated his shoulder in the 2nd round of their July fight and was thus unable to continue.
