Groves and Cox make weight!

WBA Super World Super Middleweight champion George Groves (75,8 kg) (26-3, 19 KOs) and Jamie Cox (76,1 kg) (24-0,13 KOs) are ready for Saturday’s Ali Trophy quarter-final clash at The SSE Arena, Wembley in London. (Photo credit: World Boxing Super Series)

“I have worked hard all my life to become a world champion,” said Groves.

“Now I will work hard to win the Muhammad Ali Trophy. I am in great shape, I have great experience and I know exactly what it takes to win this tournament. I can’t wait for Saturday night.”

Jamie Cox has been confident in the build up for the fight and says he is ready to cause a stir against the number one seed in the super middleweight division of the World Boxing Super Series.

“I am relaxed,” said Jamie Cox.

“I have got my team, my friends, my family and my fans here. I am ready to go, I have trained hard for this.”

“It is obviously my first world title fight and I am ready for the occasion. When I looked into George’s eyes a saw a scared man. I am predicting a great, great win.”

A limited number of tickets are on sale ranging from £35 to £130 at stubhub.co.uk.

George Groves says he will give fans the fight they want to see by beating Jamie Cox on Saturday night.

The winner of Groves-Cox at SSE Arena night will fight Chris Eubank jr next after he booked his place in the semi finals of the World Boxing Super Series by crushing Avni Yildirim in Stuttgart.

Groves admits: “When people stop me in the street, they ask me: ‘When are you fighting Chris Eubank ?’

“That’s the fight people ask me about. That’s the fight people want to see and if I win on Saturday, it’s going to happen and it’s going to happen soon, in January.

“We did a bit of sparring five or six years ago and he’s good at what he does, but there is neeed for adjustments.

“It’s a big, big fight.

“People are excited about that fight.”

Groves is convinced the fight will happen having written off Cox’s chances of pulling off an upset.

The 31 year old southpaw from Swindon has won all 24 fights and Groves warned: “This is a big jump up in class for him.

“He hasn’t been in a real fight at super middleweight and he hasn’t fought anyone in the top 10.

“Martin Murray made the step up from middleweight, found I was too big and too strong and went back down.

“Size, form and experience are all against Jamie. He won the Commonwealth Games at light-welterweight 11 years ago – and he hasn’t done much since.

“He has never been in a real pressure situation. He’s always been fighting opponents with losing records who are used to being beaten up.

“It’s a big night for him and his coach, John Costello.

“They will be obsessing over the game plan and people who do that against me come unstuck.

“If he takes it to me, he will have to walk through shots to land his own and if he plays the long game, that will suit me. I have longer arms, I’m sharper and I’m faster than him.

“Whatever he does, it’s a tough night for him.”

Groves vs. Cox live on Super Channel in Canada

The third of four quarterfinals bouts in the super middleweight division of the popular World Boxing Super Series (WBSS) tournament action will be held today when World Boxing Association (WBA) Super World Super Middleweight Champion “Saint” George Groves (26-3, 19 KOs) defends his title against undefeated challenger Jamie Cox (24-0, 13 KOs), airing in Canada exclusively on Super Channel, live from Wembley Arena in London, United Kingdom.

The “Groves vs. Cox” card, starting at 2 p.m. ET / 11 a.m. PT,gives Canadian boxing fans the opportunity to continue watching all $50-million WBSS tournament action live, exclusively on Canada’s boxing destination network, Super Channel, which acquired the rights in Canada to broadcast the World Boxing Super Series from MP & Silva, a leading international media company that provides media rights, digital, technology and sponsorship services.

“I feel I’m in the form of my career,” Groves said. “This tournament has come along for me at the perfect time. I’ve had a fantastic camp. Everything that we wanted to happen did happen. It’s gone perfectly. I know what Jamie Cox can bring. I know that we maybe haven’t seen the best of Jamie yet because he’s fought nowhere near the level that I have.

“He hasn’t fought any big names, he hasn’t been in world title fights and he’ll have to take a giant leap on Saturday night. Both he and his trainer will wonder whether he can take that leap. When he’s boxed at a lower level he’s dropped to that level and maybe he’s that sort of fighter. Maybe he can rise to the occasion but maybe not.

“He’s been gifted with a world title shot. He hasn’t fought anyone decent to get this. I’ve picked him, it’s fantastic for him. We’re hoping that the best of Jamie Cox will show up. I look forward to going out and performing and performing well. And to show everyone in the division that I’m still the man to beat.”

“I’m going to win,” Cox countered. “It’s as simple as that. No question about it. I’ve come into this to win the tournament. George is the first stop. I’m ready. I don’t know why he chose me. Everyone in the tournament is good, but I’m going to make my mark.”

The Groves-Cox winner will advance to the WBSS semifinals to face another Brit, IBO champion Chris “Next Gen” Eubank Jr., who knocked out previously undefeated Avni Yildirim in the third round of last Saturday’s quarterfinals fight in Germany.

Seven thrilling matches on the “Groves vs, Cox” card, promoted by Sauerland Event, will air in Canada exclusively on Super Channel. The Groves vs. Cox 12-round main event is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. ET / 3 p.m. PT.
