Maidana would be tough fight for Mayweather, says Sergio Martinez

maidana790 If Marcos Maidana ends up being the one that faces Floyd Mayweather Jr. in his next pay-per-view bout on Showtime on May 3rd, Sergio Martinez sees Mayweather as having problems in trying to beat him. Sergio, a tough fighter from Argentina, thinks Maidana won’t be an easy out for Mayweather if he chooses to face him.

Mayweather hasn’t revealed whether he’ll face Maidana or an arguably weaker test in Amir Khan, but fans have pretty much spoken with their desire not to see Mayweather fight Khan. Maidana would be an upgrade over Khan despite the fact that Khan beat him three years ago.

Marcos Maidana could be out in the cold as far as big fight is concerned

maidana5434 Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) was hoping to cash in with a big money fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. following his upset victory over Adrien Broner earlier this month on December 14th in San Antonio, Texas. But the chances of Maidana getting a fight against Mayweather are slim at best, and he might not even get a rematch against Broner. It’s doubtful that Golden Boy Promotions will let Broner fight Maidana again unless he forces the issue against their advice for him to move on.

With neither the Broner or Mayweather fight likely to happen, Maidana may have to be satisfied fighting a lesser star. We’ve heard recently that WBO light welterweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov wants to fight Maidana, but that’s hardly the big fight that Maidana was looking for after his big win over Broner.

Floyd Sr. saw Maidana’s win over Adrien Broner last Saturday night, and he feels the only reason Maidana won the fight was because Broner did everything wrong that you could think of.

Floyd Sr. was great disappointed in what he saw of Broner, and he thinks the only way he’ll be able to turn around his career is if he personally takes over the training for him. Since that’s probably not going to happen, Mayweather Sr. seems Broner as not being a factor. As far as Maidana being a potential opponent for Floyd Jr., Mayweather Sr. doesn’t see him as being good enough go give his son a good fight.

Maybe it wasn’t the loss itself, but instead the way Maidana took over and made it look like a high quality sparring session. Broner, the young champion that has been making high waves in the boxing community, suffered a similar fate as Andre Berto, who also appeared like a possible boxing sensation before the limit of his boxing ability was exposed.

Now, after all is said and done, Marcos Maidana and his team are under formal investigation for possibly, cheating. In a video posted by TMZ, Alex Ariza is holding a napkin, and at one point, in a low quality replay, looks like is placing a while pill-sized object onto the napkin, and then bringing that napkin to Maidana’s mouth.

Maidana Shocked the Boxing World with an Upset Victory over Broner

maidana788931 Marcos “El Chino” Maidana shook up the boxing world as he upset, Adrien “The Problem” Broner over twelve dominating rounds in which he scored two knockdowns and in the process became the new World Boxing Association Champion with an unanimous decision victory by three scorecards of 115-110, 116-109 and 117-109. This competitive and really interesting welterweight bout, which could be considered the upset of the year, was held at the Alamadome in San Antonio, Texas and was televised on Showtime.

The 30 year old, Maidana from Argentina, improved his record to 35-3, 31KOs and won his fourth consecutive bout. He won a world title in his third attempt, after trying unsuccessfully to do so against, Adriy Kotelnik and Amir Khan. Broner from Cincinnati, Ohio suffered his first professional loss and dropped his record to 27-1, 22KOs.

Vivek W. (ESB): In my weekly pre-fight Facebook post, I listed a quote that said “To he who much is given, much is expected. And in the sport of Boxing, those who declare themselves great must first be tested”! In the end, Adrien Broner was….in more ways than one! Some viewed this fight as a “Fight of the Year” candidate. I think that overwhelming response answers the question relative to whether or not he was “exposed”. You can’t have that type of battle and be considered a “bust”. I don’t think Broner was “exposed”, in terms of being cleared as a bad fighter. “Exposed” in the sense that he isn’t as polished as his smack talk made it seem? Yeah….I’d co-sign that angle. Clearly we saw that there are a few things which prevent him from being that elite, world class fighter any time soon that we were beginning to think he was.
