Roach predicting Pacquiao KO win over Algieri

Trainer Freddie Roach doesn’t care that Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has selected the hard to hit Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) to be the next opponent for his superstar fighter WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) to battle in a catch-weight fight at 144 pounds on November 22nd in Macao, China.

The catch-weight is designed to help Algieri, who is coming up from the 140 pound division to face Pacquiao. Algieri says he would have preferred to face Pacquiao at 147 without a catch-weight because he’s got the bigger frame and he can carry the weight without any problems.

Pacquiao-Algieri 6-city promo tour to start on August 25th

In an effort to drive some badly needed interest in his fighter Manny Pacquiao’s November 22nd fight against Chris Algieri, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum will be having a 6-city promotional tour for them starting on August 25th in Macao, China. Pacquiao and Algieri will then travel to Shanghai, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and New York.

With this fight, Arum probably should have thought of making it an 11-city press tour because it’s going to need an awful lot of buildup in order to get boxing fans excited about it, especially if Arum fails to add a quality undercard.

Chris Algieri vs. Manny Pacquiao: About the Fighters

On November 22, 2014, WBO Jr. Welterweight Champion Chris Algieri will move up in both weight and opponent caliber as he challenges Manny Pacquiao for the WBO Welterweight Championship.

Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao is as accomplished as he is well-known. A world champion at a record-breaking eight weight classes, he has fought and beaten nearly every world-class fighter available. Moreover, like Joe Louis and Muhammad Ali before him, he has avenged nearly every loss.

In 2012 questions surfaced as to whether Pacquiao’s career was through. First, he lost an incredibly controversial decision to Timothy Bradley. The same year, he suffered his most definitive loss at the hands of Juan Manuel Marquez. However, the Philippine pugilist took a year off and returned to beat Brandon Rios by unanimous decision in 2013. In April of 2014, Pacman decisively beat Timothy Bradley, avenging his loss to the 147lb champion and proving his sustained greatness to the boxing community. At the time of the fight, Bradley was coming off a win against Ruslan Provodnikov and considered one of the best fighters – pound for pound – in the world.

Manny Pacquiao’s great ring career may be close to an end; Pac-Man says he may retire and run for senator in 2016

Superstar and all-time great Manny Pacquiao may not have too much time left in the boxing ring. Pac-Man, for a while now having been heavily and passionately involved in politics, has gone on record stating how he is thinking of quitting the squared circle and running for senator in 2016.

Speaking with DZMM, the 35-year-old icon and hero to millions had the following to say:

“There’s a big possibility that I will run for senator. UNA asked me to join its slate and I am grateful they picked me.”

Boxing fans do not want Pacquiao’s fantastically entertaining career to end, yet the political world wants Manny and it seems there could be just a few fights left for the southpaw dynamo who has already achieved so much as a fighter. The first thing many fans may think of with regards to how long Pacquiao has left in the ring is, will a clash with Floyd Mayweather – the only serious rival to Pac-Man’s dominance as this era’s finest pound-for-pound boxer – ever happen. Of course, so many of us gave up on that match-up ever taking place a long time ago. Still, how sad and disappointing would it be if the two megastars both exited the ring having never tested themselves against one another?

Algieri wants to take advantage of Pacquiao’s age

WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) will be nearly 36-years-old when he steps inside the ring to face the younger more mobile Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) on November 22nd in Macao, China.

Algieri realizes that he doesn’t have the power to be standing in the pocket to trade with the aging Pacquiao. But Algieri does feel that he can take advantage of Pacquiao’s age and his problems moving around the ring in order to wear him down.

How many people will order PPV to see Manny Pacquiao chase after Chris Algieri?

While this type of question wouldn’t be a discussion to be had during Pacquiao’s peak years, his choice of opponents as well as his former dominating ring generalship have been on a decline, taking away from the thrill and exhilaration of his fights. In short, the action is simply no longer the same.

Of course Pacquiao is still one of the top fighters in the sport, and underestimating him will land one on the canvas.

But the anticipation of a raw knockout, a nonstop freight train style of offense that Pacquiao used to display, is now missing, making the PPV all about paying for the name, rather than the fireworks.

Pacquiao vs Algieri on HBO PPV on November 22nd

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is rolling the dice by matching Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KO’s) against little known college-educated Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) on November 22nd on HBO pay-per-view from the Venetian Casino & Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China. Arum ironed out the deal on Tuesday with Algieri’s promoters Joe DeGuardia and Artie Pellulo, and he says it was an easy fight for him to make in terms of negotiations.

Arum sees the storyline for this fight being an interesting one given that Algieri has a Master’s degree and plans on attending medical school in the near future once his boxing career is over.

Algieri beating Provodnikov, provides Pacquiao with a phenomenal deal!

For weeks before Ruslan Provodnikov and Chris Algieri stepped inside the ring to face each other, the boxing community was already handing Ruslan the victory, promoting the possibility of him fighting Manny Pacquiao next.

Aside from Freddie Roach being a minor yet easily ignored roadblock, this fight was building momentum. Pacquiao needed a good performance against a top name, which at the time, Provodnikov was. Losing to Bradley did not harm Ruslan’s career, while beating Alvarado advanced it. Boxing fans were excited to see just how far Provodnikov would go in 2014, and many voiced their approval for Pacquiao vs. Provodnikov.

Arum makes offer to Algieri to face Pacquiao next on 11/22 in Macao

WBO light welterweight champion Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) has been given an offer by Manny Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank for a fight against Pacquiao on November 22nd in Macao, China.

The offer is a seven figure one, and it’s very likely to be accepted considering that it’s likely the biggest payday that the 30-year-old Algieri has ever received. Arum is interested in wrapping up the deal as quickly as possible.

It’s obviously not a great fight, and you have to wonder why Arum isn’t trying to pursue more appealing opponents for Pacquiao that might interest boxing fans such as Lucas Matthysse, Danny Garcia, Saul “Canelo”Alvarez or Amir Khan, for starters.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is reportedly going to take his time and wait until possibly August before he selects the lucky candidate for his fighter WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao’s next fight on November 22nd at the Venetian Casino & Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China.

It’s possible that the longer Arum waits the better the chances are that he can get a big name some the likes of Golden Boy Promotions. But if not, then his options aren’t quite as good with Chris Algieri and Luis Carlos Abregu being two of the candidates to get the fight.
