Golovkin Retains WBA Strap with Win over Stevens

golovkin451 On Saturday night, Gennady Golovkin defeated Curtis Stevens in front of nearly 5,000 fans at the Theater in Madison Square Garden. Golovkin won by TKO as Stevens’ uncle and trainer Andre Rozier stopped the fight after round eight. The victory takes “Triple G’s” record to 28-0 (25 KOs), while Stevens falls to 25-4 (18 KOs).

“I give myself a grade of 10,” Golovkin said after the fight. “I am ready to fight anybody, but specifically I want to fight Sergio Martinez.”

Gennady, I’ve got news for you. We want you to fight Martinez too. Golovkin already has a February 1, 2014 fight date set in Monte Carlo. No doubt he won’t get Martinez on that date, as Sergio’s team is trying to lock up a fight with Miguel Cotto.

Golovkin willing to drop to 154 for Mayweather

golovkin7 Abel Sanchez, the trainer for WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (28-0, 25 KO’s), says that Golovkin is the best fight for the 36-year-old Floyd Mayweather Jr. if he wants to keep getting the kinds of money that he made in his last bout against WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez last September. Sanchez says that Golovkin is willing to drop down in weight from 160 to face Mayweather Jr. at 154 if he’s agreeable to taking the fight.

Sanchez said to Hustleboss.com “I think that Golovkin is really the only name out there that is gonna give him the kind of payday that he had in his last bout with Canelo. There’s nobody on the horizon who’s gonna give him a 40 or 50 million dollar payday and if Golovkin is the guy, then we’re willing to go down to 154.”

Vivek W. (ESB): Before I get into GGG’s performance, I’d like to start by saying great effort by Curtis Stevens. I thought Stevens performed very well, although he hindered himself by only pressing in spurts. Easy to say from my living room couch, but the reality is that when he did move more and let his hands go, I thought he made the fight very interesting. He couldn’t sustain that effort, and most of that has to be credited to GGG. When you analyze GGG closer, you have to give him great absolute credit. One of the things that gave Curtis Stevens a problem all night was Golovkin’s ability to cut off the ring.

Golovkin Punishes Stevens and Then Stops Him in the 8th Round

golovkin41 Undefeated knockout artist, Gennady “Triple G” Golovkin punished Curtis “Showtime” Stevens over seven rounds before Stevens` head trainer and uncle, Andre Rozier saw enough and stopped the fight before the eight round began, preventing Stevens from receiving anymore punishment. Golovkin retained his World Boxing Association (“WBA”) and International Boxing Organization Middleweight Title for the ninth and sixth time respectively.

This fight took place in an almost sold out Madison Square Garden Theater in New York City, New York and was televised on HBO Boxing After Dark.

Golovkin controlled the action in this competitive bout but one that he outworked and out landed Stevens and demonstrated that he was the vastly superior boxer. He pressed the action throughout the fight and cut off the ring really well as he had Stevens on the ropes on several occasions where he landed a great deal of punishing shots.

He took some hard shots from hard hitting Curtis “Showtime/Kryptonite” Stevens, impressing the packed house in the Theater at Madison Square Garden. It’s came as no surprise that he now wants to fight the lineal champ Sergio Martinez.

Triple G’s only setback came in the post-fight interview when he said Curtis never hurt him. There was a collective groan heard from the crowd, and not just from Stevens’ fans. They weren’t biting on that bit of bragging. The truth is there were some pretty tense moments in the fight, enough to keep fans on the edges of their chairs. Even while hurt, it was obvious to them Stevens remained a threat. He proved he could take a punch, coming back strong after a big Triple G left hook put him on the canvas in the second round. Stevens beat the count, but clearly was hurt and confused. He kept looking to his corner as though he wanted confirmation that he had been decked. Or, maybe he thought they could yell out some sage advice.

After the round was over, Stevens’ corner chose to have the fight stopped rather than letting him come out for the 9th and get finished off. There was no way that Stevens was going to be able to come back and have a chance to win the fight because he was little more than a short punching bag for Golovkin. Stevens was taking a lot of big shots in the 8th.

It’s kind of a forgone conclusion that WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (27-0, 24 KO’s) will be dominating his over-matched and undersized opponent Curtis Stevens (25-3, 18 KO’s) in their HBO televised fight at Madison Square Garden Theater, in New York, New York, USA. It’s not so much what happens in this fight for Golovin, because he’s going to win by either a knockout or a lopsided decision.

Brooklyn native Curtis Stevens, who will be fighting close to home in the Theatre at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night, has taken a much different path en route to get back on HBO after losing to Andre Dirrell his first time on the network.

The Las Vegas betting lines, boxing fans and media alike aren’t giving Stevens much of a chance besides as a puncher. Can you really blame them in a matchup that looks like a duck?

It seems like HBO is playing a dangerous game of trick or treat with triple G’s.

Both fighters were mobbed by media and fans as they took photos and signed autographs during their visit just days ahead of their showdown this Saturday night, November 2 at Madison Square Garden, “The Mecca of Boxing” and LIVE on HBO®

Rosado suspicious about Golovkin’s gloves

rosado2 - Copy It took Gabriel Rosado (21-6, 13 KO’s) nine months to speak up but he’s now saying that he’s suspicious about the gloves that WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (27-0, 24 KO’s) used when he stopped him in the 7th round last January in Madison Square Garden, New York. Rosado, 27, says that he noticed that there was little padding around the knuckle portion of the gloves compared to his own, according to RingTV, and that has Rosado wondering what’s up.

Golovkin turned Rosado’s face into what resembled hamburger by the 7th round, and it was pretty quick the way his features changed once Golovkin started to land his power shots. Rosado was running the entire fight with the exception of the 5th round. In that round, Rosado mixed it up with Golovkin and both guys got hit with some good shots. The fight was pretty much over in the 6th round after Golovkin caught Rosado with a right hand uppercut that staggered him. A bleeding Rosado then went back onto his bike until the fight was stopped in the 7th.
