Once Stevens is out of the way, Sanchez wants Golovkin to face Mayweather or Cotto. He believes that Golovkin can down to 154 to face either of them as long as he has a full 8 week training camp to trim down.
Sanchez said to RingTV “Gennedy came into camp weighing 167 before training, so it would be just a matter of getting enough time to get down to 154…we would start losing some of the weight that we have to earlier…it’s just a matter of having the time to do it.”
WBA/IBA Middleweight World Champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin and undefeated heavyweight Mike “The Rebel” Perez spent this past weekend in Los Angeles where they held a media lunch for the Southern California press, attended the Julio Cesar Chavez Jr./Bryan Vera clash at the StubHub Center in Carson, California and were hosted on Sunday by two separate National Football League telecast outlets.
At the Manhattan Beach Marriott on Saturday, Golovkin and Perez along with K2 Promotions’ Tom Loeffler and their trainer Abel Sanchez discussed their November 2 fights in New York City and future plans in front of a massive turnout of area media.
Also joining them at the media lunch was undefeated cruiserweight Isa Akberbayev who will be fighting on the undercard at the November 2 event.
Before I get started I just want to say that the Mayweather/Canelo fight is a unanimous decision victory for Floyd regardless of CJ Ross’ inept scoring. By now everyone is wondering who Floyd will fight next in May of 2014. Cinco De Mayo is a traditional Mexican holiday that Floyd on several occasions has chosen to fight on, and has fought non-Mexicans on that date. Fans can expect an undercard loaded with Mexican fighters if Floyd elects to fight a non-Mexican on that date. Floyd could also elect to fight on another May 2014 date all-together.
Of the names that Floyd could be expected fight a few will peak fans interest and these are:
Danny Garcia – Matthysee will enforce his rematch clause. But does anybody believe that Garcia can beat Mayweather? NO!

Mark C. (Hollywood, FL): Looks like Curtis Stevens has talked his way into a showdown with GGG. I like Steven’s power and his heart. Do you think he can pull off the upset?
Vivek W.: When you have two heavy punchers like this, anything is possible. But I wouldn’t advise anyone to drop any ducats in the bucket! Sometimes in life we have to be careful what we wish for! I won’t go out on a limb and say, unequivocally, that Stevens loses. But when you examine things a bit closer, I really don’t know that his chances are as great as he may think. I love his confidence, and I think you have to respect a young lion in the sport who feels strong enough about his talent to not only call out the biggest star in his realm, but actually go forward with the plans to take him out. That being said, GGG has been in beast mode lately, and there’s really nothing major for Stevens to get out of this fight.
As fans may have read, middleweight ruler (begging the pardon of Sergio Martinez) Gennady Golovkin is shopping around for a November challenger, with a December fight also pencilled in. Currently one of the hottest fighters/champions/out and out punchers in boxing, “GGG” has fans salivating for more pure punching action.
Fresh off his hugely impressive body punch KO over the experienced Matthew Macklin, the WBA/IBO 160-pound king wants to close 2013 with two more highlight reel wins. As to who his November foe might be, well, Curtis Stevens scored a sizzling highlight reel KO of his own last night in Connecticut, in wrecking Saul Roman in the opening round of a fight that contested the vacant NABF middleweight belt.
#9 IBF, #10 WBC, Curtis Stevens (24-3, 17 KO’s) is a strong possible opponent for WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s next fight on November 2nd in New York, according to Steve Kim. Golovkin’s promoters at K2 are interested in matching him against Britain’s Martin Murray, but that fight likely won’t happen.
If Murray can’t take the fight, then the 28-year-old Stevens could be the guy that faces Golovkin in a fight that will likely be televised by HBO unless they turn down the fight.

Jeremy H. (Orlando, FL): How do you compare the legacy of Floyd Mayweather to other athletes in history? In other words, what are your thoughts about him as a man, an athlete, and overall as a person, when he look at his legacy compared to great athletes of the past?
Vivek W. (ESB): This is a very broad question to tackle in just a few paragraphs. I think to best answer it, we have to look at things from day one. When we look at the entire history of Mayweather, we see a man who has had a very storied career that has seen him dominate from a very early stage. Even prior to the professional ranks, you have to consider that there was an Olympic Bronze that would have been a Gold had it not been for a poor decision. From day one, this has been a fighter who has proven himself at every level.

If there will be a direct exchange of punches, than there is no doubt that he will win. But I am sure that Floyd will not do that, he doesn’t need to do that, thus there will be no explosive war, as some are expecting. I think that the fight will be boring. Still we are all hoping for a big show,” stated Gennady Golovkin in a recent interview with Gorodokboxing.
I believe that most would agree with Gennady, and the fact of the matter is, while there is an entire army of fans out there thinking that Alvarez will be able to bully Mayweather Jr., he simply won’t be able to get close enough to do the damage.
Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions thinks his champion WBO middleweight belt holder Peter Quillin (29-0, 21 KO’s) is the best fighter in the 160 lb. division right now, and it appears that De La Hoya thinks WBA champion Gennady Golovkin is still unproven.
De La Hoya wants Golovkin to face Quillin’s recent victim former WBO middleweight champion Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam, presumably in some kind of weeding out thing to get to Quillin.
De La Hoya said on his social media site “Hey Kid Chocolate how does it feel to be the best middleweight on the planet. My man Kid Chocolate will destroy any middleweight out there. I wanna see Golovkin vs. Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam and then I’ll see if he’s good or not.”
