Abel Sanchez – Ward wouldn’t last 12 rounds with Golovkin

The trainer for ‘Triple G’ Gennady Golovkin called out Andre Ward and his team in a recent interview with FightHype. In the interview he said that Ward shouldn’t mention Golovkins name is they were not willing to put money on the table in the form of a fight offer. Andre Ward is the guy who has Jay-Z in his corner and is generally regarded as the A side in the fight due to his victory in the super-six tournament so it is down to him to contact Golovkins people and start negotiations for the fight.

I do understand the problems Golovkin and his team are facing as the fighter has become a victim of his own success. In the destruction of each and every opponent they have faced, they have scared off the top names in the business.

Against Martin Murray later this month Golovkin is expected to pick up his twentieth consecutive knockout win, this will make him 32-0-0 with 29 knockouts but at 32 years of age his window for super-fights is getting smaller with each passing year. It is unclear how long he will be able to keep up this level of fighting and he needs to get the big names before his skills start to deteriorate or he is hampered by injuries.

Miguel Cotto and Canelo Alvarez would both be big names for Golovkin, but at this point he is really looking for any scalps he can take for his resume. The hit list seems to include everyone from 154-168lbs and in that range you have Carl Froch, James Kirkland, Andre Ward, Erislandy Lara, Peter Quillin and Julio Cesar Chavez who would all make fantastic matchups for Golovkin, the only question is who would be first to take the leap and challenge the beast in-ring. 2016 could see the rise of Golovkin to the top of the pound for pound list should Mayweather retire and the right fights are made for him.
