by Andrew Hall: Many years ago Floyd Mayweather accused Manny Pacquiao of taking anabolic steroids. In response to this, Pacman filed a lawsuit against him. Regardless of who is right, should Olympic Style drug testing be implemented in professional boxing?
I think the emphatic answer is NO. Boxing already has drug testing in place. If the commission felt that Olympic Style drug testing was necessary, they would implement it. The reason they haven’t done it is reason enough not to make it a demand. Floyd Mayweather is hiding in absolute fear of Manny Pacquiao. That is the real reason he has brought up drug testing, money, and other stupid things. He is deathly afraid of The Pacman.
Drug testing of any kind is fallible. There are ways around any kind of test. Olympic athletes have been circumventing these tests for decades. Thus, using these tests is no guarantee to eliminate drugs from the sport of boxing!
If you think a certain fighter is on steroids you may be right. The same is true for any elite professional athlete. The vast majority of them are on steroids. How do I know this? Just take a look at the stats professional athletes have today as compared to 60 years ago. The fact is, athletes of all types have been getting bigger and more defined. This is a direct result of weight training and in some/many cases anabolic steroids!
I think this Olympic style drug testing is a farce. What boxing needs is the biggest fight it can produce and that is Mayweather vs Pacquiao. When and if this fight occurs it will set new records in Pay Per Views among other things. Also, it will be a very interesting stylistic match pitting the best defensive fighter of this era against the best offensive fighter of this era! May the boxing gods pour upon us their blessings by allowing this fight to happen!
