The Mystery man says he fixed one of Welsh’s mistakes during Khan-Peterson fight

By Michael Collins: Mustafa Ameen, the gentleman who for a short while was called the “Mystery Man,” for his presence at the Amir Khan vs. Lamont Peterson fight, revealed on Wednesday in an interview with the BBC Sport that he had pointed out a small error that WBA supervisor Michael Welsh made on his score sheet during the Khan-Peterson fight on December 10th in Washington, DC.

Ameen said to the BBC Sport “I noticed one error and subsequent error. I assisted him in correcting the error without touching anything…I saw, I believe, it would have been, nine, nine, nine, which is 27 all day long. It might have been 26 or 28 but he was off by a point or two. I happened to look down and I said ‘Michael, 9 x 3 is 27.’ He said ‘Oh my god,’ and corrected himself. And he said ‘I’m not feeling well this evening, thank you very much.’”

The Mystery man would have been a substantial part of Khan and Golden Boy’s case to have Khan’s loss to Peterson overturned with the IBF in their cancelled meeting that was supposed to take place on Wednesday. However, by cancelling the meeting, this kind of information was never able to be brought to light. I myself don’t see it as anything that would be enough to overturn a defeat.

Just because a guy looked over the WBA supervisor’s shoulder and noticed a glaring error and told him about it, that’s enough to give Khan a no contest. You have to look at what actually took place in the ring and Khan failed to prove that he was the better fighter on that night. It doesn’t matter if Ameen found a mistake on the scorecard, the fact is Khan looked terrible, failed to adapt to Peterson’s inside game and responded by fouling all fight long.
