Berto-Zaveck in September; Theophane-Cook and Quigg-Varela on Saturday

Ljubljana (Slovenia), July 2011 – Dejan Zavec (aka Jan Zaveck) has spoken about September’s bout against Andre Berto on his official press conference. “I am going to USA to win!” was a clear message from the International Boxing Federation (IBF) World Champion. Exclusive and appealing calling out video clip was launched for American public alongside the Dejan’s official website new look.

“Honestly I have been waiting for this opportunity all my life. This is going to be the beginning of my global career,” were first words of Dejan Zavec (31 win, 18 KO, 1 lost) who is going to defend his IBF World Champion’s title against boxing star Andre Berto (17 win, 21 KO, 1 lost) on 3rd September in USA.

“This is going to be my first break overseas, but definitely not the last. We have done a lot of work to come this far, this is a dream fight for me”, were Dejan’s words while describing his 27 years old opponent Berto as: “He is a great fighter in all the matters, but far from being invincible. I am going to USA to win the fight, not to watch it.”

Dejan has lifted up 310kg

Dejan is leaving now to Germany, where he will do his final trainings with practice matches under the supervision of his coach Dirk Dzemski. They plan to go to the crime scene in USA around three weeks before the fight. “We will allow no coincidence. Dejan has never been that well prepared as he is this moment. On 3rd September, he will be the best and ready to fight on the moon if it takes. No one will want to meet him in the ring on that day!” is convinced Dejan’s physical trainer Tomi Jagarinec, who adds: “We have been through five months of hard work and just these days Dejan has broken his record, lifting 310 kg from half crouch. Now we will focus on raising his form and timing to reach the peak on 3rd September. It will be experience that will make the difference and Dejan is the one who is in a better position here.”

Official website new look and Calling out video

Dejan’s website (www.dejanzavec.com) has got a whole new look (English version will be online next week; till then ckeck out old version here) and tempting video clip just been recorded, where Dejan is calling out to the international (especially American) boxing public. Theophane defends British title against Cook on Saturday

London (22nd July) ASHLEY Theophane is eager to show that there is not just one British fighter who can be at the top of the light-welterweight division this Saturday night at Wembley Arena.

While World Boxing Association (WBA) World champion Amir Khan clashes with International Boxing Federation (IBF) champion Zab Judah in the early hours of Sunday morning, Theophane defends his British light-welterweight title against former European lightweight champion Jason Cook.

Theophane, who holds wins over top fighters such as Demarcus Corley and Delvin Rodriguez, wants a successful defence on Saturday night to pave the way to a fight that will lead him closer to a world title shot

“Khan has never been on my radar, I want Timothy Bradley who I believe is the number one in the 140lb division,” said Theophane.

“I know that I belong at world level, my record shows that and it’s up to me to beat Cook and then look for a fight that will get me into the world title scene.

“I don’t want to be hanging around on the British and European level, I’ve always wanted to test myself against the very best.”

Meanwhile, challenger Cook’s coach Darren Wilson says the Welshman could not in better shape for his shot at Theophane.

“Nobody is hitting harder than Cookie at the moment. This is the title that he turned pro for and he wants it more than anything,” said Wilson.

“He knows this is his last chance at the British title and he will give it everything.”

Quigg in big test against Varela on Saturday

SCOTT QUIGG admits he faces the fight of life against Franklin Varela tomorrow night (July 23).

The Bury man will be roared on by a hometown crowd at Castle Leisure Centre in a 12 round WBA world super-bantamweight title eliminator which is being shown live and FREE on You Tube.

Undefeated Quigg, 22, will also be defending the World Boxing Association (WBA) intercontinental crown against his Venzuelan rival, but crucially victory will move him closer to new champion Rico Ramos.

Quigg warned his fans: “This is my biggest fight so far and it is not an easy one.

“I have got a tape of Varela. He is dangerous and I have trained very hard for the contest.

“I am on the ball and if I stick to what I do best I am very confident of winning.”

Quigg has paid for several American training trips out of his own pocket to help get him his 21 professional wins and there is also a British title tilt against Jason Booth lined up for October.

He added: “If I lost right now it would put me right out of the mix for everything and right back down.

“The Booth fight is made, but that won’t happen if I lose to Varela. I will be on top form.”

On the same bill Belarussian mandatory European light-middleweight title challenger Sergei Rabchenko goes in with Kevin McAuley.

In other contests on the card Italy’s former WBA world and European light-middleweight title challenger Luca Messi boxes Tony Randell.
