Rose vs. Welch on 5/13

BRIAN ‘THE LION’ ROSE is out to win the British light-middleweight crown for new born son, Oscar.

The Blackpool brawler’s partner Danielle Wilson gave birth to their first child at two minutes past midnight on Wednesday.

Rose, 26, made the dash from his Manchester training base to Blackpool after Danielle went into labour and saw the birth of Oscar who weighed in at a heavyweight 9lb 1oz.

Within a few hours he had to leave and return to his camp ahead of Friday’s (May 13) English title defence against Martin Welsh (9-0) at Medway Park Leisure Centre, Gillingham.

Rose (16-1-1) said: “Oscar will be photographed with my Central Area and English title belts, but the one I want most with him is a Lonsdale belt. He has given me even more incentive.

“I was in bits when he was born and inconsolable, but now I am going to miss him for a few days because of the fight.

“This has been the best week of my life. Last Friday, Danielle and myself bought out first house, two new sponsors have come on board and now my son has been born.

“Although my routine has changed it will not affect my performance. I left the hospital at 2am, slept until 10am and then drive straight back to Manchester to finish training for the fight.”

The bill headed by Chislehurst’s Sam Webb (17-1) who defends his British light-middleweight title against Manchester’s Prince Arron (20-3-1). Rose could face the winner

A third title fight on the Sky Sports televised show sees Wembley’s Akaash Bhatia (15-1) meets Crawley’s Ben Jones (11-2-10 in a vacant English featherweight title clash.

Chatham heavyweight Tom Dallas banger (14-0) bids to send his local fans home happy when he faces American Zack Page (21-34-2)

The show at The O2 is set to be a great night showcasing the best talent in British boxing, DeGale against Groves is the biggest domestic showdown since the Nigel Benn-Chris Eubank epics in the 90s and is heating up to be a dynamite fight; Cleverly is the rising young star and he faces a big test against Braehmer, who is a tough and experienced champion and a win for him will put him in the frame for big fights against top Americans Chad Dawson and Tavoris Cloud. Viewers will also get to one of the best young prospects in Britain, Frankie Gavin, in action. It will give the boxers a great opportunity to showcase their talent and establish themselves in the US early in their careers.”

Mark Greenberg, president and CEO of Epix, said, “With so much attention being focused on the light heavyweight division lately, EPIX is very happy to be able to present this exciting world title fight between defending WBO champion Juergen Braehmer and WBO interim champion Nathan Cleverly and James DeGale against George Groves,” said Mark Greenberg, President and CEO of EPIX. “Combined, 39 of their 57 victories have come by knockout.
