Frankie Gavin has vowed to become the first boxer to halt rugged Frenchman Munior Geubbas.
Gavin will meet him at York Hall on February 19, and he’s after a commanding performance to secure a British light-welterweight title shot later this year.
Britain’s only-ever amateur world champion takes on Guebbas over eight rounds in 10 days time.
“Funtime”, who holds the Irish title, is after more title fights for the rest of 2011.
“Guebbas is going to be a tough opponent,” confessed 25-year-old Gavin.
“He’s fought more than 30 times and he has never been stopped, But I’m going to be the one to change all that.
“I’ve only been taken the distance once in my career, and I regard that as a blemish on my record.
“By the way I’m punching, Guebbas is going to get taken out in a couple of rounds.”
Gavin was ruled out of a WBO Intercontinental title challenge in December with ‘flu.
But as well as climbing the world rankings in the next 12 months, he is also after a Lonsdale belt.
“I feel that I’m ready to challenge for that title, no doubt about it,” said the Brummie.
“I was as good an amateur as James DeGale, and he fought for the British after just nine fights, so who says I’m not ready?
“There isn’t a light-welterweight in the UK who can live with me and that includes Lenny Daws and Amir Khan.
“I’m ready for Daws right now, and I want to beat him before the summer.”
Tony Bellew headlines the card when he defends his Commonwealth Light-Heavyweight title against Ovill McKenzie with the vacant British title on the line.
2006 Commonwealth Games champion Jamie Cox returns to action, as does 2007 World Amateur Champion Frankie Gavin.
Ronnie Heffron, Vinny Mitchell, Bradley Skeete, Ahmet Patterson, Billy Morgan and Freddie ‘Luke’ Turner complete the card.
