Carl Frampton (wtko3 Yuriy Voronin): On his performance…. “That was the performance of my life and we know that Voronin is a tough operator so it took me a while to suss him out because he was a bit cagey. Once I got the range at the end I was nearly hitting him at will but I had to be careful because when I pushed him on the ropes he was throwing wild swings at me.
On the crowd reception….. “The fans reception was amazing and I’m sure it put the frighteners on Voronin from the start. The crowd were fantastic and it gives you such a buzz and a big lift. I didn’t want to let myself or the crowd down..
On Voronin’s southpaw stance…… “As southpaw’s come he didn’t seem that tricky. I’ve fought a couple of southpaws so far since I turned professional and I’m sort of used to boxing them. I got a lot of southpaw sparring in London and I can handle them. I’ve sparred a lot with Ryan Lindberg who is one of the most awkward southpaws around.
What’s next….. “I’ll be keeping a close eye on the Kiko Martinez-Willie Casey fight [November 6 in Limerick] and I don’t want to blow my own trumpet but I believe I would beat Casey or [Paul] Hyland. If a fight came up with either of those boys I would snap it up with both hands. Both lads are good fighters, Casey’s come on a lot under Sutcliffe and he’s improved. Hyland is a nice slick boxer who doesn’t punch too hard.
“I don’t want to forecast the result of Martinez-Casey but I’d be all in favour of Casey winning and I hope he comes out on top, I give him my support.
On the inevitable hype…… “I’m level headed and I just have to get used to the hype that will now surround me.”
Barry McGuigan:
“We had to be wary of Voronin because he likes to catch punches and throw straight back. Carl’s speed and timing was brilliant tonight and we’re starting to see the fighter I watch in the gym. This kid [Voronin] went seven rounds with Scott Quigg who is supposedly the best prospect in England and went eight rounds with Olympian Joe Murray.
“I want to get Carl back in the ring quickly; we’re looking at a title fight soon. We’re already looking at various opportunities. It takes a long time to get these things [shows] going so I’m looking at the end of November/beginning of December for the next show. Carl is now a bill-topper so we need to carefully asses the next move.
“Jamie Conlan is not far off a title fight and Stephen Haughian has reaffirmed how good his potential is. He beat a tough, durable opponent [Dee Mitchell] and he’s right back in the mix now. I thought that Stephen Haughian’s body shots were fantastic tonight and he relit the flame of his career and also gave away some natural weight tonight.
“The atmosphere built itself into a crescendo and we’re going to set the scene alive here, it really excites me.
“There are not enough shows over here and my goal is to put on shows on a regular basis to get the kids out boxing. We pick sensible opponents and put on competitive fights but not in easy fights.”
Jamie Conlan (won tko3 Hyusein Hyuseinov):
“I see things I can work on, I want to improve and get better. I don’t think I missed him with an uppercut tonight and it was nice switching from head to body. I was giving away a bit of weight tonight but I spar light-welterweight Michael Kelly in the gym so I don’t mind handling the bigger guys.
“I feel I’m sitting down more on my punches and I’ve been working on the uppercut and left hook to the body in training.”
Stephen Haughian (wpts6 Dee Mitchell):
“I felt a whole lot better tonight compared to the King’s Hall night. John [Breen] and I have been getting back to basics and the snap was lacking last time due to ring rust after being inactive for nine months. The punches were free flowing tonight and I’ve got six rounds against a good, durable opponent.”
