YORK, PA (August 4, 2010) Featherweight contender Carney “BEEPER” Bowman stormed back to the ring this past Saturday night at the Sovereign Bank Stadium with a brutal third round knockout of Puerto Rico’s Robert Acevedo.
Headlining TKO Boxing Promotions’ “The Battle of York V”, the Fighting Pride of York, Pennsylvania was welcomed by a raucous hometown crowd of over 3,000 fight fans as he made his way to the ring.
Setting the pace early in the battle, Bowman continually drilled Acevedo with shots to the head in the first round. With Acevedo resorting to holding and hitting on the break, Bowman scored less in the second round but still was able to hurt Acevedo with vicious body shots on the inside.
Upping his aggressiveness in the third round, Bowman attacked Acevedo throughout the round, finally dropping him with a sensational double right hand hook to the body and head, earning the stoppage at the 0:47 mark of the third round.
With the win, Bowman improved to 15-0-0 with seven knockouts, while Acevedo moved to 9-11-3 (1KO).
After taking a couple of days to relax, Bowman spoke about the win and his future, “I was in outstanding shape for this fight after training in Houston with Rocky Juarez. Acevedo was a very dirty fighter and I had my hands full with his tactics early on. But once I got going and my right hand starting hitting the mark, it was just a matter of time.
“Ideally, I’d like to fight again as quickly as possible whether it’s at 126 or 130. Just give me 4-5 weeks to prepare and I’ll fight anyone at either weight, particularly guys in a similar place as me like Antonio Escalante, Argenis Mendez or Jason Litzau. Any of those guys would make for perfect all-action fights.”
About fighting in York, PA, “I love fighting at home, my last few fights have been here and the support has been terrific. But if I have to go out of town for a bigger fight, I’m ready. Just give a little bit of time to get ready and I’ll go anywhere and fight anyone.”
