UK Boxng: Barker Tenrife Bound; Chisora: I´ll be Domestic King!

Darren Barker will prepare for his big clash with Matt Macklin with a training camp in Tenerife. The European middleweight champion puts his title on the line against his Brummie rival on September 18. The fight takes place at the LG Arena in Birmingham, and will be part of Frank Warren’s massive Magnificent Seven show, live on Sky Box Office While Macklin will jet to the USA to team up with Freddie Roach, Barker will travel to the Canary Islands. “Macklin needs to go half way round the world, I just get on a plane for a couple of hours and I’ll have the best training camp possible,” said Barker..

“I’ll be running up and down Mount Teide to get in shape. The facilities we have out there will be second to none.

“I can also call on the skills of the most under-rated trainer in boxing, Tony Sims.”

Sims added: “Darren will be in the best shape of his life. We’ve contacted a couple of people in France for some sparring, and we’ll be bringing them over to Tenerife.

“I’ve watched Matt Macklin throughout his career, and he’s a great fighter. But I think Darren’s hand-speed will win him this fight.”

CHISORA: I’LL BE DOMESTIC KING

Derek Chisora says he’ll clean up the rest of the domestic division – after he’s beaten Sam Sexton.

The unbeaten prospect defends his British heavyweight title on Frank Warren’s big September 18 show at the LG Arena, Birmingham, live on Sky Box Office.

He’s also gunning for Sexton’s Commonwealth crown.

And the 26-year-old is so confident of victory, he’s already got some other opponents in mind.

“After I have stopped Sexton again, I’ll do the same to Tyson Fury,” said Chisora.

“He’s got a big mouth but an even bigger belly.

“I saw his fight against John McDermott, and I couldn’t believe what bad shape the pair of them were in.”

Fury is in line to challenge Chisora next, should he come through against Sexton.

But there are a couple of other domestic heavyweights that Chisora also fancies his chances against.

“Martin Rogan is supposed to be making a comeback, and I wouldn’t mind going over to Ireland and dealing with him,” said Del Boy.

“Sexton’s beaten him twice already, but Rogan says he was injured in both of those fights. He won’t be able to come up with an excuse once I flatten him.

“The man I really want though is Audley Harrison. How he won the European title, I really don’t know.

“He got lucky against Michael Sprott, but I’m quite happy to knock him out as well and hopefully send him into retirement once and for all.”
