Boom, Lightsout, Mike Marrone’s Back!

By Laz Izada – The house was rockin this Saturday night at the Deauville Beach Resort in Miami Beach, as Jeff Gibson’s Elite Promotions presented Battle At The Beach 8. Fans on hand witnessed 5 exciting boxing matches along with 4 outstanding mma matches.

The highly anticipated heavyweight main event featured the return of now 24 year old Michael Marrone 19-1, (14KO’s) to the squared circle after a 2 year layoff, against a very game, record deceiving 31 year old Joseph Rabotte 8-14-1(3KO’s). Marrone from Vero Beach, Fl came in at 224Lbs while Rabotte from Myrtle Beach, SC weighed in at 254Lbs. Both fighters stood in at an even 6’ 3”, in the scheduled 8 rounder..

In the 1st round Mike displayed effective jabs and body shots, landing an extradionary left hand hard body shot, the jabs and body shots continued throughout the fight. Rabotte was in retreat mode a lot during the fight, and the times that they did engage Mike got the best of him.Rabotte displayed a strong chin. He had not been knocked down in his previous 9 fights. That all changed in the 5th round when Mike nailed Rabotte with a huge jab, that whipped his head back, and from the looks of the instant blood and swelling on Rabotte’s nose, it was broken. That was it, shortly after that Mike connected with huge right and it was Boom Lights out for the hard fighting big man. Thank God referee Frank Gentile stopped the fight not allowing Mike another shot in, things would of gotten real ugly, and Rabotte’s health would have been at risk.

After the fight Mike said he was happy to be back and get some ring rust off. He wanted to thank the referee Frank Gentile for stopping the fight the way he did. (not allowing a tragic ending) and commend the Florida Boxing Commission for the outstanding job that they have done during all his fights in Florida and during this one in his return. Mike and his trainer Eddie Chambers SR. mentioned that the hook up and jabs displayed throughout the fight led to that right hand power knockout in the 5th round.

From the looks of things Mike’s definitely back, he still has that knockout powerful right,
while throwing in a mix of powerful jabs with strong body shots.

With his new team (Eddie Chambers SR and Victor Ramos trainers, Jack Luce manager and Don King Promotions with Al Bonani guiding) and the talent that he has things can only get better. Fight fans keep an eye on Mike he’s back.
