By Matthew Paras – Kenny Galarza vs. LLido Manuel Julio: Puerto Rican prospect Kenny Galarza(12-0, 12 KOs) started off Dominic Pesoli’s Windy City Fight Night 8 with an impressive 5th round TKO of veteran Llido Manuel Julio (39-17-1). Galarza passed his first test well as he overwhelmed Julio with clean shots throughout the bout. Julio was put down in rounds one and three off of left hooks to the head. Referee Geno Rodriguez gave Julio another round to try and come up with something, but Galarza dominated round four. The contest was stopped in-between rounds..
Bobby Jaskierny vs David Laque:
Bobby Jaskierny and David Laque’s mediocre records didn’t matter when they provided a thrill to the UIC Pavilion in an entertaining four rounder. Both fighters came out swinging and threw wide looping shots for four action packed rounds. The fight had no clear winner and the judges’ scorecards reflected that in a Majority decision draw. Jaskierny’s record increased to 4-2-1, while Laque went to 1-3-1.
Sergio Cristobal vs. Sergio Montes de Oca:
Sergio Cristobal (1-1, 1 KO) proved to be the better of the Sergios in what was a workman like unanimous decision. Sergio Montes de Oca was previously undefeated at 3-0, but did not have the defense to deal with Cristobal’s constant pace. Scorecards read 39-37, 39-37, and 40-36.
Antonio Avila vs Herbert Acevedo:
Somebody’s 0 most go is a common saying in boxing and that is what happened in a battle of Midwestern prospects. Herbert Acevedo (2-0, 1 KO) used his height and reach to keep the aggressive Antonio Avila (2-1, 1 KO) from landing anything. However, the fight was still competitive and the judges saw the fight at a Spilt Decision. Scores were 39-37 Acevedo, 39-37 Avila, and 39-37 Acevedo.
Ashur Esho vs Alexander Tousignant:
1:11 of Round 1 is all it took for Chicago based prospect Ashur Esho (6-0, 5 KOs) to impressively stop Alexander Tousignant (1-2, 1 KO). Esho came out with a series of flurries that showed off his hand speed. Along with the speed, Esho showed a devastating right hand that left people cringing even in their seats and Alexander drooling on the canvas. The fight was called immediately.
Ivan Popoca vs Federico Flores Jr.:
Chicago fan favorite Ivan Popoca (13-0-1, 9 KOs) landed a wild right hand to send Federico Flores Jr. (6-4, 2 KOs) to the canvas in round number three. Up until then Flores Jr. was in the fight as he used movement to disrupt Popoca’s rhythm. Popoca adjusted better in each round, pressuring Flores into the ropes and landed thumping body shots. After the knockdown, Popoca let his hands go overwhelming Flores Jr until he couldn’t continue. Time was 2:10.
Andrzej Fonfara vs Adan Leal:
Stopping fights on the ropes seems to be a reoccurring theme for tonight’s set of fights and Adrzej Fonfara (14-2, 5 KOs) added to that when he got a 4th round TKO victory by pummeling Adan Leal (6-2, 5 KOs). Leal stuck in there for the majority of the fight, fighting back in short bursts of punches that would connect. Although, it was Fonfara who dominated most of the fight by using his long arms and a left hook/right hand combination to prevent from Leal to get any sort of attack going. Time was 2:38.
Andrzej Wawzyk vs Harvey Jolley:
Andrzej Wawzyk (17-0, 10 KOs) survived a scary knockdown in round four to cruise his way to a unanimous decision by the scores of 78-73, 79-73, and 79-74 over Harvery Jolley (10-13-1, 5 KOs). Wayzyk was busy throughout, but missed the majority of his shots with Jolley slipping and rolling most of them. Jolley was never able to counter, except in round four where he connected with a great 1-2 sending Wawzyk to the floor. Andrzej Wawzyk was never hurt and went back to dominating the fight.
