Mary McGee Returns February 26th at The Hammond Civic Center

January 26 (Merrillville, In) – After a year of her greatest joys and sorrows Mary McGee definitely had an unforgettable 2009. Starting last year with two big victories her first in devastating fashion over the game Jessica Mohs in February. McGee then set her sights on Kristy “Rose” Follmar for the WBC International Championship, which was held at the Hammond Civic Center in April of last year. McGee followed her victory over Mohs with ten of the most nonstop action packed rounds of boxing seen in the State of Indiana where McGee was again victorious with a majority decision over Follmar.

Improving to an undefeated record of (17-0) with her win over Kristy Follmar and winning the WBC World Championship McGee found herself on an unstoppable path in the ring headed towards becoming an all time great in the World of Women’s Boxing. But for a young lady who had overcome so many obstacles to finally reach this pinnacle and find stability in an unstable life, greater obstacles lied directly ahead.

Tragedy struck McGee first with an untimely loss of her brother in June followed by another untimely loss as McGee’s ring mentor and Promoter Octavius C. James suddenly passed away in July of last year. With such heavy tragedy McGee put her boxing career on the side and had to reevaluate her future in boxing.

After 10 months, the longest layoff of McGee’s career she makes her return to the ring in Championship fashion. “Octavius has created a path a for me, he had paved the way this far and has taught me how to continue the work on my own, so no matter how hard it is, I will finish the work we started together,” McGee said. “Merciless” Mary McGee will do just that as she returns on February 26th to the Hammond Civic Center to meet her toughest opposition to date in WBC International Lightweight Champion Brooke “No Mercy” Dierdorff.

“Brooke is a tremendous opponent!” said McGee, “When I spoke with the One In A Million Boxing Team, I told them I want to come back in Championship Fashion.” For those who do not remember Brooke Dierdorff she was the young lady who came and upset Mia St. John at the Star Plaza Theatre nearly two years ago. “Let’s look at statistics,” said McGee, “Kristy Follmar loses a decision to Mia St. John when they met and look what kind of fight we had together. Brooke Dierdorff has beat Mia St. John, not once, but twice, so imagine what kind of fight there will be on February 26th!”

The return of “Merciless” Mary McGee is just one of the high action packed fights lined up for February 26th. In the Main Event Michael “Midnight Stalker” Walker and Derrick “Superman” Findley will square off for a Middleweight Title Showdown. Angel Hernandez is set for a Title Showdown for an opponent TBA, Josh Crouch will face “The Mexican Connection” Juan Aguilar, also scheduled to fight are “Marvelous” Shay Mobley vs. Darnell Wilson, Ed Ochoa, David Martin III, and Meegal Harper.

The fights for Friday night are really looking good. Take a look.

6 Round Heavyweights
Darnell “The Ding-a-Ling Man” Wilson (23-9-3) vs. Harold Sconiers (16-20-2). An interesting note on this fight is Darnell has lost 4 out of his last 5. One lose being to Andre Purlette (40-3). His opponent Sconiers is fresh off a 3rd round KO win over Purlette.

6 Round Jr. Middleweights
Cecil McCalla (9-0) vs. Jason Champion (4-4). Maybe an unassuming bout on paper, but factor in that Champion fought Jesse Nicklow (19-2) twice, losing razor thin decisions, and a loss against Tim Coleman (17-1) in another 2 point decision. This fight will be fun to watch.

6 Round Lightweights
Thomas Snow (12-1) vs. Jason Rorie (5-5). Every one of Jason’s losses have come at the hands of undefeated fighters. This guy comes to fight and will need to against the talented Snow.

4 Round Heavyweights
Venroy July (2-0-1)vs. Kevin Johnson (3-2)

4 Round Lightweights
Derrel Martin (4-11)vs. Dwayne Martin (1-1). Derrell’s last six opponents had a combined record of (50-1-3). He won once, lost four by decision and was stopped once. This will be a fun start to the show on Friday.
