The pride of Montebello, California and a member of the 2004 Mexican Olympic team, Abner Mares (18-0, 11 KO’s) is a budding star both in the United States and in Mexico (originally from Guadalajara, Jalisco Mexico). Blessed with a full arsenal of weapons in the ring, the 23-year-old Mares won the NABO bantamweight title with a seventh round stoppage of former World Champion Isidro “Chino” Garcia of Guerrero, Mexico in September of 2007 and defended the crown twice with wins over Argentinean David Marchiano and Diosdado Gabi of the Philippines. After an impressive victory over 15-1 Jonathan Arias in June of 2008, Mares stopped Jonathan Perez in six rounds this past May. On August 27th, he hopes to continue on his road to the top of the 118-pound division in front of his hometown fans.

Standing in his way will be hard-hitting Santo Domingo native Carlos Fulgencio (11-3-1, 7 KO’s). A fierce competitor with six knockouts in three rounds or less to his name, Fulgencio is coming off a blistering first round knockout of Nelson Diaz in May.

A former United States amateur champion, Oxnard’s “Dangerous” David Rodela (13-1-3, 6 KO’s) is hitting his stride in the pro ranks with a series of big wins over the last two years, including victories over Jose Luis “Mapachito” Soto Karass, Julio Gamboa, Ramon Ayala and former World Champion Kevin “Flushing Flash” Kelley. He continued his win streak in 2009 with a ten-round win over Marlon “Rata” Aguilar in January, followed by another victory against Juan Garcia on June 11 in the first installment of “Fight Night Club”. On August 27th, Rodela hopes to continue his winning streak by notching another victory at Club Nokia.

In the opposite corner facing Rodela, will be 22-year-old Gamalier Rodriguez (8-1-2, 4 KO’s). A native of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, Rodriguez is currently riding a three-fight win streak that includes a second round knockout of Carlos Perez in his most recent bout in December.
