On the Ropes is back in action with our stupendous hostess, the charismatic Miss Jenna J, along with her co-host Nick Powers and her special weekly guest, yours truly (aka-Rummy). This week’s episode will begin with a discussion about Saturday night’s fight between Roy Jones Junior and Jeff “Left Hook” Lacy. Although both fighters have seen better days, Roy Jones had a turn-back the clock performance and we will analyze his impressive efforts inside the ring..
We will also be discussing what’s next for each fighter, and in the case of Jones, it appears that Danny Green—who scored an impressive KO victory against Julio Cesar Dominguez on the under card—will be up next. We will discuss Green’s impressive knockout and give our thoughts on a prospective Jones-Green match-up. We will also touch on Nonito Donaire’s impressive victory over Rafael Concepcion for the vacant interim junior bantamweight title. Finally, we will also briefly mention the injury suffered by Vivian Harris in his fight with Noe Bolanos.
We also have two special guests for this week’s episode. First up, we have former WBO and linear heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs. We will discuss Shannon’s plans for a return inside the squared circle and also talk about some of the main highlights from throughout his career and get his opinions on the current heavyweight landscape. Next up, we will have undefeated cruiserweight BJ Flores, who scored a very impressive victory against Epifanio Mendoza on the Roy Jones under card this past Saturday. We will talk to BJ about his victory and discuss his next move and the prospects of getting a title shot before the year ends.
Additionally, we will also be discussing the latest breaking news and upcoming fights. Leading the headlines this week is a confirmed fight between volume puncher Paul Williams and middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik. We will analyze this match, which is slated to take place on October 3 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ in great detail. We will also discuss some other upcoming match-ups, highlighted by the very intriguing bout taking place between Juan Diaz and Paul Malignaggi. This interesting clash of styles is between two pugilists who are coming off fairly recent losses in high profile bouts, with Malignaggi being thoroughly outclassed by Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton and Juan Diaz being stopped in a hard fought battle with Juan Manuel Marquez. The fight will be held at a catch weight of 138 pounds. We will also discuss the upcoming fights between Malcolm Klassen and Robert Guerrero, Daniel Jacobs and Ishe Smith, former OTR guest Oliver McCall and Franklin Lawrence, and another former OTR guest Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin and Jose Spearman.
