News: McDermott vs Williams; Buendia vs Gomez; Boxeo Thompson

John McDermott, 25-4 (16), will look to improve upon his his July, 2008 performance against British heavyweight champion Danny Williams, 40-7 (31), in which McDermott lost a highly controversial majority decision at Goresbrook Leisure Centre in Dagenham. In that contest, Williams lost two points for low blows in the 11th and one more in the 12th for intentionally spitting out his gumshield, yet still won a 114-111, 114-113 and 113-113 majority decision victory. McDermott had hurt Williams badly with a massive right uppercut in the fifth round and this time the powerful Exton man has vowed not to let Williams off the hook..

Williams, just two months from his 36th birthday, could be ripe for the taking after his shocking stoppage loss to veteran Albert Sosnowski in November.

But the highly seasoned former world title challenger also has everything to prove, just as he did following consecutive losses in 2006 to Matt Skelton and Audley Harrison, when “The Brixton Bomber” returned to form with a devastating knockout Scott Gammer.

The bill is headlined by newly minted European light middleweight champion Jamie Moore’s title defense against Roman Dzuman and also includes European super bantam titlist Rendall Munroe’s bid to add the Commonwealth belt against Isaac Nettey and the second pro bout of sensational Olympic Bronze Medallist Tony Jeffries.

Frank Maloney Promotions presents Jamie Moore vs. Roman Dzuman for Light Middleweight Championship of Europe with full undercard at Crowtree Leisure Centre in Sunderland, England on Saturday, May 2, 2009.

Tickets for this event are sold out.

Sky Sports will broadcast as part of their Sky Box Office presentation of Ricky Hatton vs. Manny Pacquiao starting at 10PM.
