News: Universum congratulates The Klitschkos, Leo Nolan, Theophane to take on Zab Judah?

The entire team of Universum Box-Promotion has congratulated Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko after Vitali won the WBC heavyweight belt on Saturday night. Promoter Klaus-Peter Kohl, who signed both to their first professional contract in 1996 and worked with them until 2004, said “My dream that both brothers are world champions at the same time also came true on Saturday. I started to dream this a little bit more than twelve years ago. When I recall from our start time in 1996 until now, I am deeply impressed by the sporting and personal development of both. I congratulate Vitali and Wladimir wholeheartedly on the fulfillment of their dream..”

Klaus-Peter Kohl was especially impressed by Vitali’s convincing victory against WBC champion Samuel Peter. “I have always said ‘if Vitali enters the ring ready and fit he can beat everyone. That was boxing in perfection. And a perfect production of the whole evening. You can’t do better. Saturday was a good day for boxing.

Big Chance – Theophane to take on Zab Judah?

Rumours are abound that Kilburn’s Ashley Theophane could soon be taking on former World Champion, Zab Judah.

Both camps are currently in talks over the fight, which could take place on November 8th at Madison Square Garden on the undercard of Joe Calzaghe vs. Roy Jones.

Boxing Capital managed to grab a brief chat with Theophane today (11th October 2008) who believes that Judah is beatable, having won only 2 of his last 7 contests and appeared to surrender in his last defeat against Joshua Clottey.

Judah (36-6, 25 KO’s) would represent a big step up for Theophane (22-3, 7 KO’s) but it really is a fight that Theophane can win. Remember that Theophane is coming off a career best victory last time out against former WBO Light-Welterweight Champion, DeMarcus Corley.

First Theophane was supposed to fight former World Champion Derek Gainer, who turned the fight down. Then another former World Champion Souleymane M’Baye got injured whilst training. Now Zab “Super” Judah.

So will it actually happen? We’ll leave the answer to Theophane himself, who told Boxing Capital – ‘the only way the fight doesn’t get made is if Square Ring’s (Judah’s Promoter) offer is slave money’. Comments like that make me believe a Theophane win is even more possible – he clearly wants this fight badly. Let’s hope the fight get’s made and Ashley can really upset the applecart in Judah’s hometown of New York.

Leo Nolan Wins

Detroit Heavyweight Leo (Paco) Nolan made his return to the ring last night night at DeCarlos Convention Center in Metro Detroit. He fought a very impressive 8 round decision over an over matched journeyman Mike Jones. Leo, look like he was in great shape and made Jones miss all night. The most impressive thing I noticed was the way he put his punches together for a heavyweight. I thought it was a good performance for a guy who doesn’t get much respect. I would say this is a guy to watch out for in the next year or so. Many managers and promoters have been sleeping on this fighter from Motown and to be honest he has a great deal of talent. The one thing that‘s missing on his resume is big name opponents other than a faded Lou Savarese; people will say but who has he fought. My question to those people is, who have Leo refused to fight. I’m looking to see big things from this slick fighter from Detroit.
