Campbell vs. Guzman: The Handicappers Thread

By E “Stuck In A Moment” Schaffer: On September 13 Nate Campbell will defend his version of the 135 title vs. Joan Guzman. Nate Campbell will enter this fight as a 2-1 dog. How can that be? I mean Campbell just beat 135 pound champ Juan Diaz. Diaz was unbeaten with an easy KO win over Acelino Freitas, but Campbell was able to bully Diaz all night for a win and has won 6 of his last 7 fights losing only once by SD. Campbell comes into this fight with the better resume and this will be Guzman’s first fight at 135 pounds and we didn’t see any power from him at 130.. And wasn’t that Guzman/Barrios fight real close? If the referee didn’t take a point away from Barrios it would of been a draw. I guess these are the reasons why everyone is taking Campbell in the fantasy boxing betting on this site. Well let me tell you why Guzman is a 2-1 favorite and why he will easily win.

This is a fight line where Vegas knows what their doing. Joan Guzman should clearly be at least a 2-1 favorite in this fight. His comes into this fight with more speed, better skills, better chin and just a better fighter then Nate Campbell. I was very impressed by the way Joan Guzman was able to take shots from fighters like Jorge Barrios and Humberto Soto, easily out boxing them in the process. Nate Campbell will not be able to bully Guzman the way he did Juan Diaz. Guzman will circle around all night while throwing blazing fast combinations at Campbell. I like to call Joan Guzman the Dominican Floyd Mayweather. That’s right. I said it. As you can see they both have that great upper body movement that forces their opponents to miss, even while they lay on the ropes and let their opponents throw punches. I do think the fight will go the full 12 rounds and so does Vegas because the total in this fight is 11.5 rounds and 3-1 to go over. I see Joan Guzman winning at least 9 rounds of this fight. I could of spent more time breaking down the fight in this thread, but that’s not my style. I base my picks on 50% of the fighters talent and 50% of the line perception. Most people will take Nate Campbell with the big plus money. The line tells me that Vegas loves Guzman. Don’t get caught up in breaking down a fight or a different sporting event without knowing the Vegas line. I mean every sports fan in America can name every starter on every NFL team, but on Sundays they go 3-8 with their picks. Talking about the breakdown of a fight will not get you a high winning percentage. When making a prediction you must know how to read the line. And believe me I’m reading this one very well. Guzman by wide UD.

So there you have it. Short and sweet with all you need to know.
