Team Diaz Press Release: Former WBA, WBO and IBF champion Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz touched down to his hometown of Houston Sunday evening from Cancun, on the heels of his split decision loss to Nate Campbell. By Monday morning Diaz already was resuming his college courses at the University of Houston, not letting his disappointing defeat affect him..
Saturday night Juan was gracious in his loss, not giving any excuses but there are many FACTS that need to be heard.
Before the fight Juan’s ex promoter Don King decided to put Diaz under scrutiny for not resigning with DKP by disrespecting him and his team verbally and also with the help of big signs that were made so everyone could see, you would think that it was the presidential election with so many cheap shots and smear tactics.
There was also a press release from DKP talking about how “King dumps Diaz!” which was very humorous for those who really knew the real story, truth is that Juan’s contract expiration was Saturday night, right after the fight and there was no interest from Diaz to re-sign and that did not fly right with his ex promoter, so rather than take his defeat like Juan did Saturday night he decided to get dirty and throw low blows and lies.
Another FACT is that there was NO pre- or post-fight drug testing for both fighters. It seems ironic that this was the 36-year-old Campbell’s best performance in years and his team didn’t rush him to get his drug screen. Not accusing him of course, but it seems crazy that in a unification fight of this magnitude that no drug tests would be done, especially since a new champion had been crowned. This should be looked into by the sanctioning bodies.
More FACTS, referee Jesus Salcedo worked his first title fight on Saturday night, how many referee’s get there first shot as a major unification fight on HBO?
During the fight Don King was chanting “And new” taking cheap shots at team Diaz while conversing with the representative of the IBF and walking by all of the judges while flashing a smile.
Many things were not right and many people surrounding the event were against Juan Diaz that night but he keeps his head up and will continue on, just a shame that he had fallen victim to his promoter, the promoter that vowed to work wonders for him.
Only In Cancun!
