Walker Returns From Puerto Rico With Miguel Cotto In Time For “Showdown”

November 1 (Merrillville, IN)- Jack “Kid” Callahan announced today that One In A Million Inc.’s franchise player, undefeated middleweight prospect, Michael “The Midnight Stalker” Walker (17-0-1, 11 KOs), just returned from Puerto Rico where he served as Miguel Cotto’s chief sparring partner. Cotto (30-0, 25 KOs) has been preparing to defend his WBA welterweight title against “Sugar” Shane Mosley (44-4, 37 KOs) on November 10th at Madison Square Garden..

“Cotto is a really smart boxer,” Walker said. “If he takes advantage of any opening that Mosley gives him, Cotto will win. You just can’t make any mistakes against a fighter like Mosley who is so fast.”

After a year of tremendous growth, experience and exposure, Walker is quickly gaining recognition for his speed, precision and power. In August, on the “War for Four” under card at the Allstate Arena, Walker scored a highlight reel TKO over former U.S. Olympian Dante Craig before a host of national media. In September, Walker scored another quick TKO in a “stay busy” fight in Merrillville.

In addition to training at Cotto’s camp last month, Walker served as the chief sparring partner for WBC and WBO middleweight king Kelly Pavlik (32-0, 29 KOs) as Pavlik prepared for his dramatic win over Edison Miranda. Of course, Pavlik went on to take the middleweight titles from Jermaine Taylor in September.

“I really learned a lot being in camp with those two champions,” Walker said. “To be able to hold my own against both of them makes me even more confident in my ability. Both camps were terrific opportunities for me to prove to myself that I’m right there.”

On his immediate goals, Michael said, ” I want to step up in competition and fight 10-rounders or 12, for a title. I’m just waiting for them to give me a marquee name so that I can use everything I’ve learned this year to show the world that I’ve arrived.”

Now back home on Chicago’s south side, Walker is helping his One In A Million stablemates prepare for their November 16th bouts on the annual “Pre-Thanksgiving Showdown” at the Radisson at Star Plaza in Merrillville.

Presented by Octavius James/One In A Million “Marvelous” Shay Mobley (16-9-1, 7 KOs), Jimmy “The Fighting School Teacher” Holmes (15-1-2, 8 KOs), Ruben “The Modern Day Warrior” Galvan (27-11-2, 10 KOs), Derrick “Superman” Findley (8-2, 5 KOs), Ed Ochoa (1-0, 1 KO) and Jimmy Perez Jr. (1-0) are featured in separate bouts.
