Dominick Guinn Ready To Cause Disaster In The Desert!

29.04.07 – Interview by John Martinez, Boxingrealm.com: On Friday May 4 at the Palms Casino and Resort in Las Vegas, NV Dominick “ The Southern Disaster” Guinn (28-4-4 19 KO’s) will enter the ring seen as just another “opponent” for a young, unbeaten heavyweight prospect on the rise named “ Fast” Eddie Chambers (28-0 16 KO’s).

The fight is scheduled for ten rounds and will be the principal bout featured on SHOWTIME NETWORK’S “ SHOBOX: THE NEW GENERATION” series that will telecast live beginning at 11PM ET/PT. I spoke with Guinn regarding his upcoming fight on SHOWTIME and what his thoughts were concerning those who now view him as a journeyman fighter..

JM: Dominick, how do you feel going into this fight with Eddie Chambers? Do you feel any pressure being a part of the chief bout on SHOBOX?

DG: Well first I’d like to say that I am definitely ready for this fight. I’m looking forward to it and I see this as yet another big fight for me. I’m gonna go in and take care of business and make him (Chambers) earn it.

JM: What do you know about your opponent, Eddie Chambers?

DG: I know he’s a slick counter puncher with fast hands. He’s undefeated, but I’m ready for anything. I can go 10 rounds if that’s what its gonna take, but I’m definitely looking to show myself and what I can do.

JM: I’d like to ask you what your thoughts are about being part of a boxing series labeled “ SHOBOX: THE NEW GENERATION”. Do you feel that you are being used as a stepping-stone of sorts for the young prospect?

DG: Yes. I think both SHOWTIME and Dan Goosen see me as just “ an opponent” but I’ll tell you something, I’m not going out there to lie down. Right now, I’m at 215 pounds and that’s about the weight I was at when I fought Michael Grant. So it’s been all mental for me in preparing and getting to this weight, and believe me, I’m ready. I’ve got a surprise for all of them.

JM: You mentioned your mental preparation leading into this fight. A lot of people have said that it was your loss of focus for fighting that derailed your career. Do you feel that is a fair assessment?

DG: Well I already had the skills to fight. I was just feeling torn down mentally going into my past fights with everything that I was going through with Main Events. And then I was getting low balled and screwed all the time and that made me feel like I was being held back you know.

JM: Since you are now focused and rededicated to your career, what should we expect to see from you on May 4th?

DG: Your gonna see the new and improved Dominick Guinn that you will definitely be talking about. I’m ready to conquer the heavyweight division.

JM: I know a lot is riding on the outcome of next week’s fight for you. Have you thought about what steps you’d like to take should you be victorious against Chambers?

DG: Well I know that after I answer on Friday, people will step up to the forefront. I just got to take care of business next Friday and I’m pretty sure that after I do that I’ll step into the top 10 rankings and bigger and better things will come. People will start calling me out. All they gotta do is make the money right and I’ll fight. I love to fight and I’m looking to fight again in June or July. Listen, I know I’m well on my way.

On behalf of Boxingrealm.com I’d like to thank Dominick Guinn for his time. The fight will be the main event on the Goosen-Tudor promoted card held at the Palms Casino and Resort in Las Vegas, NV Friday May 4th. The telecast will air live on SHOBOX: THE NEW GENERATION starting at 11PM/ET. The under card will feature a pair of undefeated heavyweights in Cristobal “ The Nightmare” Arreola (19-0,17KO’s) battling against “ Devastatin” Devin Vargas (11-0, 5KO’s).
