Mean Joe Greene, Cindy Serrano on Tua Undercard Thursday at Roseland

New York, Feb. 20—A 10-fight undercard will accompany the David Tua-Robert Hawkins main event when Cedric Kushner’s Gotham Boxing presents “David and the Rising Stars,” boxing spectacular this Thursday night, February 22, at the Roseland Ballroom. “Mean” Joe Greene, the undefeated New Yorker, puts his 13-fight unbeaten streak on the line when he squares off against the veteran Pat Coleman (29-3, 20 KO’s) of San Diego in an 8 round middleweight tilt..

And popular female stalwart Cindy Serrano (11-0-l, 7 KO’s) of Brooklyn takes on Oklahoma City’s Jessica Mohs (6-14-2, 1 KO) in a 6 round featherweight bout. That unbeaten duo joins another pair of New York prospects with unblemished records – Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin and Jorge “The Truth” Teron – in companion features on the card.

Quillin (8-0, 7 KO’s),who brings his knockout punch and exciting style to Roseland for the second time, faces the stiffest test of his young career when he faces the veteran Steve Walker (20-14, 14 KO’s) in a 6 round middleweight contest. In his last outing on November 3, “Kid Chocolate” disposed of David Estrada with an impressive first round TKO. The rangy middleweight possesses a popular come-forward style and knockout punch to go with it.

Bronx star Teron (14-0-1, 9 KO’s) will also be making his second Roseland appearance when he takes on Sebastien Hamil (6-6-1, 1 KO) in a lightweight affair scheduled for 8 rounds. Coming off an eighth round TKO over Lorenzo Bethea on December 8th at the Huntington Townhouse, Teron will look to continue his rise up the lightweight rankings. Trained by Mark Breland and managed by Steven Heid, Teron is a three-time New York Golden Gloves champion.

Thursday night will mark the pro debuts of the highly touted fighting Velasquez Twins from San Juan, Puerto Rico in 4 round featherweight contests. Juan Carlos Velasquez takes on Stephan Arnold (0-2), while Carlos Ivan Velasquez faces Manuel Angulo (1-0, 1 KO).

Even more local talent will be in the Roseland ring with Rosedale’s Ronson Fank (6-0, 4 KO’s) scheduled in a 6 round light heavyweight contest against Milwaukee’s Mike Word (3-5-3, 3 KO’s), and Yonkers’ John Schneider (3-0, 2 KO’s) is slated for a 4 round heavyweight affair. West Islip’s Darrel Madison (1-1, 1 KO) will be in action as he faces Mike Jones (3-6, 1 KO) in a 4 round heavyweight bout , and Dominican Juan Dominguez, now residing in New York, will make his pro debut as he faces Francisco Palacios (0-0-2) in a 4 round junior featherweight contest.

Back to the main event: Samoan heavyweight slugger Tua goes for his fifth straight victory as he eyes a return to world championship contender status against the tough Philadelphian Hawkins (21-6, 7 KO’s).

Tua-Man has a glittering ring record of 46-3-1, and his knockout prowess makes him one of the most feared heavyweights in the division, as his 40 KO triumphs clearly indicate. He has defeated the likes of former champions Hassim Rahman, Michael Moorer, and John Ruiz, and current WBC champion Oleg Maskaev during his career.
