“Red Hot” Rob Frankel on Telefutura Friday Night

(Denver, CO, January 4, 2007, Air Tight Boxing) New Mexico is famous for its hotter than hot chili but this Friday fight fans will be treated to heat of a different kind as Colorado based contender “Red Hot” Rob Frankel will fight the co-main event on the Top Rank promoted Telefutura card emanating from Las Cruces. Frankel, who comes in with a modest record of 18-5 with 3 knock outs, will open ‘07 looking to carry the momentum he gained in going 6-0, 2kos in ‘06.. This is a short notice fight (3 days) and Frankel’s second trip to New Mexico. He hopes to do better in both departments this time around.

Frankel made his pro debut, with ZERO amateur experience, in New Mexico back in 2003 against “Hurricane” Hector Munoz who was then undefeated and now a once beaten prospect. Munoz is a fighter Frankel would love to see in a rematch.

Frankel’s last two losses came on short notice fights in ‘05. In December he lost a very close decision to Dmitry Salita. Many ringside observers felt Frankel more than deserved the decision and attributed the decision to the judges in Salita’s home turf. Frankel also went 8 hard rounds with highly touted contender Lamont Peterson in ‘05 just 7 days after a six round decision win at home.

Frankel’s opponent, for the eight round affair, will be Noel Rodriguez. Rodriguez carries an impressive 10-1 record with 5 wins by knock out with his last win coming over rugged and awkward journeyman Derrick Moon. The one loss was avenged a mere three months later by unanimous decision.

Unlike Frankel, Rodriguez has an impressive amateur pedigree including a national Silver Gloves championship and appearances in the ‘Big Three’ of amateur boxing; National Golden Gloves, P.A.L.’s and U.S. Men’s Championships.

Anytime you have two hungry, up and coming boxers in the same ring you can expect fireworks. Combine that with Frankel’s fan friendly, ‘come forward at all costs’, style and you truly have the makings of a war.

This bout will open the Telefutura telecast which scheduled to begin at 8pm MST.
