Rock Solid Promotions up to big things in 2007!

04.01.07 – Look out Oscar De La Hoya, there is another fighter/promoter who is putting the gloves back on! In October heavyweight Lou Savarese and longtime businessman Cameron Park both put on their promoter’s hat for the first time in what wound up as a resounding success when they showcased unbeaten Light Heavyweight Chris “Hard Hittin” Henry, former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez in his pro boxing debut, unbeaten Middleweight Chase Shields and local favorite Bobby “El Jefe” Flores to a totally sold out Houston Grand Plaza Hotel..

On January 18th 2007 the promoting duo will do it again, bringing Thursday Night Fights back to Houston, this time one of them will also be showcasing skills in the ring as well.

Lou Savarese will make the second fight in his comeback and 1st fight in his hometown of Houston, Texas in more than five years when he goes up against rugged slugger Travis Fulton. Savarese, 44-6 burst upon the scene almost ten years ago when he did what almost no other fighter dared to do, stand toe to toe for twelve rounds against one of the biggest punchers of all time and fellow Texan George Foreman.

Although Lou lost a disputed split decision he garnered a lot of respect from the boxing world as his stock grew as a top heavyweight contender even with a loss.

Through his career Savarese has fought the best heavyweights in his era as he has faced the likes of former champions James “Buster” Douglas, Tim Witherspoon, Mike Tyson and the before mentioned Foreman, ironically with such a good resume under his belt nobody ever wanted to risk their title against him.

With the clock ticking, the time is now to finally get his title shot and his quest will start next month with Fulton standing in his path.

Fulton, a veteran of thirty one professional boxing matches and amazingly over two hundred mixed martial arts fights will try to rain on Saverese’s homecoming but with Lou finally injury free and more focused than ever with his eyes set on a world title it will not be an easy task.

In the co-feature, light heavyweight Chris Henry will make his much anticipated comeback to the Grand Plaza to showcase his skills and yet again show the public why he is one of the sport’s brightest prospects.

Henry 16-0 is coming off an impressive showing against the very tough Rayco Saunders, winning a 10 round decision showing heart and guile along the way in one of Houston’s most exciting fights of 2006.

Ranked 12th in the WBC and on the verge of a title shot, the man that many say resembles “A young Bennie Briscoe” is headed for the world stage very soon.

Rounding out Rock Solid’s new years show will be fan favorite Bobby “El Jefe” Flores, Angel Rodriguez, former amateur standouts Eugene Hill and Marcelino Osuna .

The Houston Grand Plaza Hotel is located on 8686 Kirby Drive. Doors open at 6:30 PM with the first fight starting at 7:30 PM.
