21.09.06 – By Tony Nobbs: Danny Green made a successful return after losing to Anthony Mundine in May by stopping Sydney’s Jason Delisle at the 1:32 mark of round night at Challenge Stadium in Perth, WA last night.
In a fairly one sided clash between good mates Green established himself early with his ram rod jab and landed solidly in each round. Delisle, stopped in six by Clinton Woods for the IBF 175 pound title in May, was his usual game self and tried his heart out to make a contest of it, landing a few clean shots of his own.
A right hand cut Delisle on the forehead mid way through round three and his right eye was near closed and nose damaged by the end. The fight was waved of by referee Brad Vocale as Delisle’s corner threw the towel in with Jason slumping to canvas after a savage barrage of shots.
A solid performance by the Ismael Salas trained West Australian Green. He is hoping to secure a shot at Woods and picked up the IBF Pan Pacific belt. He also claimed the PABA Interim title.
This was the third time Green and Delisle have met. Jason won a points decision at the Australian Amateur Titles in 2000 and Danny scored a five round stoppage in a super middleweight bout prior to his first bout with Markus Beyer in 2003.
In the main support bout scheduled for eight between two Victorians, promising Daniel “Porky” Lovett was victorious over game former Australia cruiserweight champion Adrian Bellin who retired at the end of round six of a good scrap. A catch weight bout as Bellin weighed 173.25 lb, Lovett, usually a super middle, 176.50 lb.
This was Bellin’s first fight since 2004 and was always going to be a huge task. He was aggressive at the start but eventually was slowed up by the tight punching Lovett who mixes his shots well. Lovett, trained by Jimmy Slatter is a very good technically trained 23 year old and looks to have a bright future and with the right matching could develop in time on the world scene.
Daniel “The Rock” Dawson scored a second round knockout of Filipino Dindo Castenares. Time 46 seconds. Right hands did the job. Both weighted a fraction over jnr middle.
Big Bob Mirovic took 2 minutes and 41 seconds to finish off Fijian Fatu Tuimanano in a heavyweight mis match. The 3 knock down rule ended it. Popular and willing Mirovic announced after that he will fight Sanil Sam in Germany in November.
In the opening bout of the night WA amateur champion Robbie Bryant scored an upset four round UD over touted Tyrone Tongia, middleweight. Bryant scored a knock down in round two (right hand) and punched too straight for his harder punching opponent who looked too much for a one punch KO. This was a good bout and both boys may make it to the top domestically. Pro debutant Bryant is trained by ex WA star David Letizia and Tongia trains at Chris McCullens impressive Brisbane, Queensland gym but was looked after by Billy Husein this night. Scores were 40 – 35 (twice) and 38 – 37, same as Eastside.
