Michael Moorer To Fight Crawford Grimsley March 16

06.02.07 – By James Slater: According to his manager, Adam Myers, who this reporter spoke with over the telephone today, Michael Moorer will box again in March. “Double M” will fight one Crawford Grimsley at the Seminole Hard Rock in Miami, Florida – the scene of Moorer’s last fight, a comeback win that had followed a two year absence. Last time out Michael, now thirty-nine, made short work of Mike Tyson look-alike Cliff Couser – KO’ing him in a single round. Now, on March 16th, the former heavyweight champion of the world will be looking to do something similar to the distinctively average Grimsley..

Crawford has not fought in almost five years, and on that occasion was stopped in three rounds by the little known Andre Purlette in September of 2002. Grimsley, like Moorer, is now aged thirty-nine, and is best known for fighting the legendary George Foreman some time ago. Somehow Crawford was able to take “Big” George the full twelve rounds in a fight that was staged in Tokyo back in 1996. Crushing KO defeats to the likes of Jimmy Thunder – in a mere thirteen seconds – and Brian Nielson followed, however. And immediately after the three round loss to Purlette Grimsley retired. Now coming back to face the still ambitious Moorer, Crawford looks set to be stopped in short order once more.

Indeed, Moorer’s people are not taking any chances with his comeback at the moment. Although Myers did tell me that should he win against Grimsley a third match with Evander Holyfield will be sought. “If he’s got the guts to take a third fight, that is.” Myers told me. Such a fight, if it does come off, will be an interesting encounter. And certainly a far better match-up than the one the first southpaw heavyweight king in boxing history is having next. A fight that will be extremely fortunate to see a second round.
