Brockton, MA) June 5, 2006 – Cappiello Promotions presents another exciting night of boxing on Saturday – June 17, from the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT. The eight bout card is the second installment of Cappiello Promotions’ Mohegan Sun Fight Night USA series, and features some terrific local talent, to include, highly regarded undefeated prospects Elvin Ayala and Mike “The Machine” Oliver!
The bouts will take place in the 10,000 seat, state-of-the-art, Mohegan Sun Arena. “It’s great to be back at Mohegan Sun,” says Promoter Rich Cappiello. ” It’s the second largest casino in the world, and the Arena is one of the best venues anywhere to take in a boxing event! Tickets are priced very reasonably, and are still available.”
New Haven, CT middleweight prospect Elvin Ayala (14-0, 6 KO’s) will be taking another big step up in opposition, when he takes on Delaware veteran Larry “Laser” Marks (28-7, 16 KO’s) in the ten-round main event from Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT. ” This fight will really tell us where Elvin stands,” states Promoter Rich Cappiello. “He’s 14-0, but he’s taking on a very experienced opponent in Larry Marks. Marks will definitely present Elvin with the toughest challenge of his career.”
Ayala will be making his headlining debut against the10-year pro, and former world title challenger, Marks. It will be Ayala’s second consecutive bout against a former world title challenger in just over a one month span, as he most recently disposed of former IBF junior-welterweight title challenger Virgil McClendon, via fourth-round TKO, on May 10.
Marks enters the fight riding a four bout win-streak, with his last defeat coming at the hands of Tokunbo Olajide, in a USBA light-middleweight title fight back in February of 2002.
Hartford, CT native Mike “The Machine” Oliver (12-0, 6 KO’s) looks to maintain his unblemished record when he squares off against West Palm Beach, Florida’s upset-minded Terry “The Palm Beach Punisher” Lantz (10-5-1, 6 KO’s) in the 8-round super-bantamweight co-feature bout.
Oliver comes into the fight fresh off an impressive ninth-round TKO victory over fellow New England prospect Castulo Gonzalez, in which he captured the NABO super-bantamweight title. The 26 year-old southpaw is trained by Hartford’s John Scully, who recently coached Jose Antonio Rivera to a unanimous decision, junior middleweight world title win over Alejandro Garcia. ” This fight represents a step up for Mike,” Cappiello says. ” You can totally disregard the record of Terry Lantz; the guy can fight! Lantz is coming off a big upset win, and these are the type of fights Mike needs to win. He definitely has world-class potential, but he needs to keep winning in fights like this.”
Lantz will be thinking upset once again, as he makes the trek up from West Palm Beach, FL coming off an 8-round majority decision victory over Allen Litzau on May 11. In his bout prior to that with Litzau, Lantz went toe to toe in a competitive slugfest with heavily touted super-featherweight prospect Mario Santiago, before falling victim to what seemed to be a premature stoppage with just 16 seconds remaining in the bout.

Undefeated Stoughton, MA cruiserweight power puncher Chris McInerney (3-0-1, 3 KO’s) returns to action for the first time since his 2005 ESPN Fight of the Year contest with Anterio Vines, when he takes on Davenport, Iowa’s Brandon Burke (0-0-1) in a 4-round attraction.
