Germany: Brähmer beats Thysse, eyes world title shot

04.02.06 – Düsseldorf – Germany’s undefeated super middleweight boxing star Jürgen Brähmer beat South Africa’s Andre Thysse tonight at Burgwächter-Castello in Düsseldorf by unanimous decision over twelve rounds and remained on the route that should lead him to a world title shot within a year. The official scores were 117:111 twice and 117:112..

In front of the same croud that saw the 27-year-old man from Schwerin win his first comeback fight in October he displayed the large variety of precious punches and defensive skills that make many experts believe he will be a champion in shortest time.

Brähmer improved to 27-0 with 22 knockouts. Thysse who went twelve rounds against WBC champion Markus Beyer in 2004 dropped to 19-5 with 11 knockouts.

Brähmer had to interrupt his highly promising career when he did time from 2002 to 2005 but surprised with two strong comeback fights last October and November after this three year intermission. By outclassing the South African champion in Düsseldorf while remaining almost untouchable due to his great reflexes it became obvious that the charge of coach Michael Timm had further improved since last year.

Brähmer would like to fight for a world title before the end of 2006. For German boxing fans a showdown against Markus Beyer would certainly be the most attractive choice. The other champions at super middleweight are Denmark’s Mikkel Kessler (WBA), American Jeff Lacy (IBF) and Welshman Joe Calzaghe (WBO), who is well known and feared in Germany for twice knocking out Mario Veit in world title fights.

In the second title fight of this Universum show Berlin’s Michel Trabant scored a technical knockout in round ten over Italian Michéle Orlando to rejoin the European top leage and to capture the EU belt.

For the now 27-year-old Trabant, who joined the Universum team at age 16, and who had since won the European title and lost a world title shot, improved to 42-2 (18). Orlando dropped to 30-5-2 (18).

Two powerful victories were scored by Spotlight heavyweights Egon Roth and Denis Boytsov. Roth knocked out American Jeff Yeoman in round two to improve his record to 14-0 (12). Boytsov stopped South African Hein van Bosch after round five to improved to 12-0 (12).
