Cruz Faces Valtierra on Oct.14

03.10.05 – World-ranked Cristobal Cruz of Tijuana, Mexico, takes on former World Boxing Association Fedecentro and World Boxing Council Fecarbox champion Aldo Valtierra of Cuidad Neza, Mexico, in the 10-round featherweight main event on the nationally and internationally televised “Guilty Fight Night” card promoted by Guilty Boxing Friday, Oct. 14, at the Gold Coast Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nev..

The 28-year-old Cruz has a record of 32-7-1 with 21 knockouts while the 34-year-old Valtierra has a mark of 23-7 with 13 knockouts.

Cruz is ranked No. 24 by the WBC among 126-pounders. Valtierra was the WBA Fedecentro super featherweight champion last year and the WBC Fecarbox 130-pound champ during 2003.

Cruz also is ranked No. 3 by the World Boxing Organization’s North American Boxing Organization and No. 9 by the WBC’s North American Boxing Federation among featherweights.

Cruz has won his past five bouts, all on Guilty Boxing cards. Victories this year include a sixth-round knockout of Francisco Dianzo May 6 in Tijuana; a third-round knockout of Luisito Espinosa Feb. 18 in Stockton, Calif.; and a fourth-round knockout of Jose Navarette Jan. 7 in Tijuana.

Valtierra has won five of his past six bouts, including both this year, a fifth-round knockout of Juan Manuel Matias Sept. 23 in Los Angeles and a ninth-round knockout of Frankie Zepeda May 31 in Lynwood, Ill.

Guilty Boxing’s “Guilty Fight Night” telecasts are seen domestically on America One, Comcast Sports Chicago, DirecTV, Dish Network and The Urban Network; in Europe, Africa and middle eastern countries on Fox Sports International; in Europe and Africa on BEN Television; in the Caribbean on WCVI Super Station; and in Japan.

Guilty Boxing’s weekly cards are seen in 202 million households worldwide, making Guilty Productions one of the fastest-growing providers of boxing television programming in the world.

This is another in the ongoing series of “Guilty Fight Night” cards. The innovative Guilty Boxing series was launched during May of 2004 and has presented cards in Arizona, California, Connecticut and Mexico as well as Las Vegas.

Boxers in six-round bouts on the Guilty Boxing card include: super lightweight George Bjania (3-0, 0 KOs) of Los Angeles, super bantamweight Francisco Leal (7-0, 5 KOs) of Tijuana, super bantamweight Juan Carlos Santiago

(8-6-1, 2 KOs) of Las Vegas and bantamweight Juan Mercedes (10-1, 7 KOs) of Tijuana.

Boxers in four-round bouts on the Guilty Boxing card include: super featherweight Dominic Coca (4-0, 1 KO) of Las Vegas and featherweight Vincent O’Neil (0-0-1) of Las Vegas.

Opponents for these six boxers will be determined.

The seven-bout Guilty Boxing card starts at 7 p.m. (Pacific) with doors opening at 6.

Commentators for Guilty Boxing’s “Guilty Fight Night” telecasts are “The Colonel” Bob Sheridan and Benny Ricardo. Sheridan, a Boxing Hall of Fame inductee, has worked almost 800 world championship bouts on six continents during a career that has spanned more than five decades. Ricardo, for 11 years a place kicker on four NFL teams, also is a veteran announcer and has covered the biggest events in the sports world, ranging from Super Bowls to World Cups.
