Andy Morris Issues Hard Hat for John Simpson

04.10.05 – British featherweight title challenger Andy Morris has offered his hard safety hat to Scottish rival John Simpson when they meet on Saturday 5th November at the Braehead Arena. The unbeaten Manchester star, who runs his own ground excavation business, reckons that Simpson will need to protect himself from the battering he is going to take in their British title clash..

And Morris aims to be the first man to stop the tough Greenock battler who challenged Dazzo Williams for the title last November but lost by a very close points decision.

Morris, the current English champion, said, “Simpson is going to get a beating. Plain and simple,”

“I’m offering him one of my hard safety hats so that he can cope with the amount of punches I am going to be landing with on the night because he will feel like it’s raining bricks,”

“If he takes me up on the offer it won’t help him win but it will let him stay in the fight longer,”

The Wythenshaw Warrior was only in action last month when he stopped tough Londoner Mickey Coveney in four rounds with a classy hard-hitting display.

He continued, “Simpson’s too stationary and throws single shots whereas I will be too fast and will have too much movement for him,”

“He’s not going to be able to cope with the high pace I’m going to set from the beginning with plenty of punches,”

“When he throws a shot at me he will miss and I will counter with three or four of my own – that will be my key to victory,”

The 2002 Commonwealth Games Bronze Medallist finished by saying, “He’s a good kid but he’s not in my class and once I win this title it’s onwards and upwards for me,”

“There’s no way I’m leaving Scotland without the British title strapped around my waist.”

The Morris-Simpson features as chief support on a fantastic fight card that is headlined by Scott Harrison’s defence of his WBO World Featherweight title against Australian Nedal Hussein to be televised live on ITV1.

Boxing superstar Amir Khan, the 2004 Olympic Silver Medallist, aims to make it three wins out of three in his first appearance in Scotland when he takes Walsall’s Steve Gethin over four rounds at lightweight.

Glasgow’s Kevin McIntyre and Hartlepool’s Nigel Wright meet in a Final Eliminator for the British Light-Welterweight crown.

A top class undercard sees hot London talent Kevin Mitchell, the 2004 Boxing Writers’ Young Boxer of the Year, Edinburgh star Gary Young, Glasgow’s Willie Limond and Lawrence Murphy and Belfast’s Paul McCloskey.
