01.03.05 – On Friday, March 18, 2005, Freeda George Foreman (daughter of two-time World Heavyweight Champion, George Foreman) will add “boxing promoter” to her already impressive resume. To mark this historical event, Freeda Foreman will make her professional debut with a premiere boxing showcase promoted by her company, Boxing Classics of America, Ltd. The event, “Houston’s Night of Stars: Texas vs. Arkansas,” will take place at the Wyndham Greenspoint Hotel in Houston..
“Houston’s Night of Stars” will offer 3 four-round bouts and 3 six-round bouts, one of which will feature as the main event. The doors will open at 6 PM and the event is set to start at 7 PM.
The Boxing Classics of America showcase will feature two of Houston’s successful fighters, “Third Ward” Billy and Jose Gutierrz. Billy, a well-known Heavyweight contender, has gained a sizeable reputation as a fierce fighter inside of the ring and as a “humble giant” on the outside. Gutierrz, born in Mexico City, Mexico is a Feather Lightweight champion in the making. In addition to promoting some of the area’s most unique and talented contenders, “Houston’s Night of Stars,” will introduce Freeda George Foreman as the only female promoter on the Houston boxing scene. The event will also act as a catapult for her company, Boxing Classics of America, which will premiere as one of Houston’s most exciting nightlife offerings.
As a native Houstonian and former professional fighter, Freeda George Foreman is looking to establish her own legacy by bringing boxing to the forefront of the Houston scene, and in time, the rest of Texas. After two years as Executive Director at her father’s gym, “The George Foreman Youth & Community Center,” and after hosting countless, successful amateur boxing events there, Freeda feels she has finally found her calling. Outside of the ring, Freeda is also looking to give back to the boxing community with plans to fund an endowment that will provide scholarships to give amateur fighters their chance at a college education. She believes that the pursuit of higher education is vital to young fighters and she wants to be able to provide them with that opportunity.
Her desire and passion for the sport, coupled with her distinctive “Foreman genes” have helped Freeda achieve her goals. “My name has gotten me here, but it is my strong work ethics and my love of boxing that will keep me on top,” Freeda Foreman said. As one of the few female boxing promoters in the male-dominated industry, Freeda is more than ready to make some history of her own. On Friday, March 11, 2005, a press conference will be held at the Fox Sports Grill (the Galleria, 5175 Westheimer Rd., Houston, TX to officially announce the showcase and Freeda George Foreman’s promotional debut.
