Cruz-Thompson, Cooper-Zamarron on Jan. 14

11.01.05 – Undefeated and world-ranked welterweight Jose Luis Cruz of Santa Ana, Calif., meets slick-boxing Vincent Thompson of Washington, D.C., in the 10-round main event on the nationally and internationally televised “Guilty Fight Night Boxeo de Campeones” professional boxing card presented by Guilty Boxing in association with Tecate Friday, Jan. 14, at the Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage, Calif..

Also on the seven-bout card is unbeaten teenager Melinda Cooper of Las Vegas against Anissa Zamarron of Austin, Texas, in a 10-round bout for the vacant Women’s International Boxing Association flyweight championship.

Other fights include Olawale Afolabi of Los Angeles against Jonathan Young of Las Vegas in a six-round cruiserweight bout; Baladan Trevizo of Rio Rico, Ariz., against Jose Beltran of Los Mochis, Mexico, in a six-round super bantamweight fight; Larry Olvera of San Pedro, Calif., against Martin Armenta of Los Mochis in a six-round bantamweight bout; Luis Cervantes of Cathedral City, Calif., against Geraldo Robles of Los Angeles in a four-round super featherweight fight; and Adrian Aleman of Cathedral City against Arnoldo Perez Lara of Los Mochis in a four-round super flyweight fight.

The card starts at 7 p.m. (Pacific) with doors to the Cahuilla Showroom at the Agua Caliente Casino opening at 5:30.

Tickets are priced at $30, 45, $80 and $150 with all seats reserved. Tickets are available at the Agua Caliente Casino box office Thursday through Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. or by calling 760-202-2600 during those days and hours.

This is the second “Boxeo de Campeones” card to be held at the Aqua Caliente Casino. The innovative Guilty Boxing series was launched May 28 and has presented cards in Las Vegas, Arizona and Tijuana as well as Rancho Mirage.

The 28-year-old Cruz, originally from Mazatlan, Mexico, has a record of 32-0-2 with 27 knockouts and is ranked No. 13 by the World Boxing Council. He’s coming off a third-round knockout of Dario Jose Esalas July 30 in Las Vegas.

The 36-year-old Thompson has a record of 22-4 with nine knockouts and is coming off a unanimous decision win over Juan Parra July 12 in Tijuana, Mexico.

The 19-year-old Cooper has a record of 13-0 with eight knockouts while Zamarron has a mark of 16-11-2 with five knockouts.

Afolabi has a record of 8-1-2 with three knockouts while Young has a mark of 10-7-2 with five knockouts.

Trevizo has a record of 5-5-1 with two knockouts while Beltran has a mark of 10-11-1 with six knockouts.

Olvera has a record of 4-3-2 with three knockouts while Armenta has a mark of 10-6-3 with six knockouts.

Cervantes has a record of 1-1 with one knockout while Robles has a mark of 1-2 with no knockouts.

Aleman has a record of 2-0-1 with two knockouts while Lara has a mark of 1-1-1 with no knockouts.
