Tybius Flowers Murdered

04.03.04 – By Keith Terceira: Philadelphia welterweight Tybius Flowers (17-6 10KO’s) was shot and killed Tuesday night as he sat in his car. Contrary to published reports Flowers was not cooperating with Philly D.A’s office regarding another murder. According to longtime Manager/Trainer and friend Custus Percy, Flowers was being forced to appear in court by DA.

“I don’t know why they printed it like that, because they were like forcing him to identify a person that killed somebody. Tybius wasn’t the type of guy that would tell on nothing about nobody. He would go to the grave like that. From what I understand the people that had a case coming up, were warning him not to go to court. He had to go. Because he talked to me about it,” an extremely upset Percy commented.

“He wasn’t going to identify anybody, the D.A. was saying he was cooperating with him but he was just going to go because they forced him to go. Flowers is one of those street guys that he won’t tell, he would just Take care of business on his own.”

“He was being forced to go to court. He wouldn’t dare talk or tell nothing on nobody, If they did kill him over this court appearance it was un-necessary because he wasn’t coming to court to ID anyone”, he said. “He was just going to court to say I don’t know who did it,” Custus Percy continued.

“They forced it, you know, we talked to somebody about it, a lawyer that’s working on the case. They knew that Tybius was going to court but wasn’t going to tell them a thing. He hadn’t seen what they thought he had seen. He couldn’t ID the guy that committed the murder. Somebody had already warned us that Tybius was in danger but I couldn’t get word out quick enough that Tybius wasn’t going to snitch on any one. We tried to get to the lawyer to tell him that Tybius might be in court because they were forcing but it was too late.”

The Philly DA’s office refused to comment, but in a prior released statement they said

“I’m not sure if his murder was related.”

Pertaining to the investigation of murder Flowers was reported to be helping prosecutors with it seemed unlikely according to Perecy that it was related to anything but the forced assistance with the DA.

Flower’s leaves two young children and hundreds of fans and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
