“We’ve been looking for an opponent for nearly two years. I’ve always wanted it to be a challenge against a real guy. We thought (Tony) Ayala was that guy, but he took a tune-up and lost. I was supposed to fight (Dana) Rosenblatt for the third time, but he retired.

Burchfield and The Comcast Network jointly announced that “History in the Making” will be shown live on CN8 from 8 to 10 p.m. CN8’s New England and Mid-Atlantic markets cover 6.2 million homes from Maine to Maryland.

“My promoter, Jimmy Burchfield, has very worked hard to get the right opponent, site and deal to finally make this happen. It’s a big fight, but I’ve been through it all. I’ve always been willing to lay it on the line every fight. My goal is to get my 50th win against Pudwill.”

Paz, the ex-WBA super middleweight and IBF lightweight champion, has defeated former world champions Roberto Duran (twice), Greg Haugen (twice), Harry Arroyo, Gilbert Dele, Luis Santana, and Lloyd Honeyghan.

“Vinny Paz is a future Hall of Famer,” Burchfield explained. “He deserves this fight to go for his 50th win and retire in style. Win, lose or draw this will be it for him.”

Pudwill, of Bismarck (ND), has fought twice for the world super middleweight title having lost to WBO champion Joe Calzaghe (TKO2) and IBU title-holder Sven Ottke (DEC12).
