26.01.04 – By Ike Enwereuzor: Jacboxing.com – Former New York Golden Gloves champion Gary “Bring the Pain” Bell of Brooklyn, NY, who has a professional record of (24-2 -18 Ko’s) started his pro Boxing career in 1995 after winning several amateur titles, including the New York Golden Gloves, Metro Games, NYS Silver Gloves and Platinum Gloves. Bell won his first Pro fight by 1st Round knockout against Art Mann. In his professional career, Bell has an impressive 1st round Knockout of Jameel McCline in 1995.
Bell experienced his first lost when he was knocked out in the first round by hard hitting David Tua.
Ike: How many amateur fights did you have?
Bell: I had 16 fights and lost only 1 and that’s why I turned pro.
Ike: When you say that’s why you turned pro. What do you mean?
Bell: There’s too much politics in the amateurs. I beat a White guy for the Olympics trial but they gave it to the guy.
Ike: What can you tell us about your first Professional fight?
Bell: It was a good first, I knocked the guy out.
Ike: You didn’t fight for over 3 years until December 2003 against Alan Smith? Describe this fight?
Bell: The guy I fought was a fill in, a southpaw, he didn’t really want to fight. He head butted me, so I got a cut on my eyes, so they declared it a No Contest.
Ike: Why did you stay away from action this long?
Bell: I was locked up all this time for something I really never did. They just judged me based on my youth history. I’m so focused now. I’m going to be the next heavyweight champion of the world. I still got the fire in me. I have surprises for all the heavyweights out there. Gary Bell is back on the block.
Ike: What’s your impression of the top ten Heavyweight contenders out there?
Bell: I see the heavyweight division as a clear path for myself. I don’t see any heavyweight out there that can beat me. Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, this group of champions are leaving soon, so we have to take this over. I’m now very focused.
Ike: When is your next fight?
Bell: My next fight is expected to take place in Nigeria on March 16. And will be promoted by Paul Sceiszinski from Capital Promotions. Paul has been the one gettting me fights and I think everything is looking good.
Ike: What would you like to tell your Fans?
Bell: I love all my fans that still believe in me. My fans should look forward to seeing me on top again. Nothing will stop me from bringing them the most exciting fights. I have my children and wife to feed, so I’m going to give it all I got. I shall bring back the excitement to heavyweight Boxing that has been missing for too long.
Ike: Tell us about your fight with David Tua?
Bell: I signed with Evander Holyfield as my manager, and he helped me get to fight for the No.1 spot in 1999. I had a good camp before that fight, but I wanted to fight Tua like Holyfield fought Mike Tyson. Unfortunately, we clashed heads and Referee didn’t see it. They let the fight continue and I couldn’t see. Tua and I are big bangers. I think a rematch would be exciting.
Ike: Describe your fight with Lorenzo Boyd?
Bell: I knocked him out in the 3rd round.
Ike: What can you tell us about your fight with Jameel McCline?
Bell: I was with Duva and Finkel then. McCline was with Queen Latifer or so. When I saw McCline, I said he’s a big boy, so I had to plan for him. I said to myself, I can’t box with this guy, I need to slug and that’s what I did, and I destroyed him 54 seconds in first round.
Ike: Compare your two fights with Robert Hawkins?
Bell: Hawkins is another tough guy from Philly. I dropped him in our first fight and won a 6 round by decision . In the rematch, I took him very lightly. I was messing with a girl during camp in Texas, so I lost the second fight.
Ike: Anything you want to tell us about your next upcoming fight?
Bell: Whoever they put in front of me will go down because I’m on a mission and all the heavyweights needs to watch out.
Ike: Your sparred with former world champion Hasim Rahman before. What’s your impression of him?
Bell: We use to have good sparring. I was locked up when he beat Lewis. Look at him today. I’m happy for him, he’s rich guy now. Don King made him a very rich guy.
Ike: What did you think of Rahman-Ruiz bout?
Bell: I thought Rahman would have won that fight. Ruiz is another guy Don King made a lot of money for. Now, it’s my time to come to the top.
