Fans sold out the Belasco Theater in downtown Los Angles for tonight’s inaugural “LA Fight Club” card from Golden Boy Promotions. Many of the prospects featured in this series will be LA based fighters and they bring their friends and family with them. It all makes for a great “club” type atmosphere at the venue, with passionate fans cheering for the representatives of their neighborhoods. Although there were eight total bouts on tonight’s card, three were nationally televised on Fox Sports 1, with a swing bout just missing the broadcast.

Parker KOs Pettaway In 4
Parker was the boss from the start pushing the visitor from West Virginian back with jarring jabs and right hands.
In the second round, Parker hurt Pettaway with a straight right to the body and was cracking him late in the round.
Pettaway came forward trying to make a fight of it in the third but was down from body shots with thirty seconds left in the round and was in trouble at the bell.
How good is Carl Frampton?
Carl Frampton had his second world title fight for his IBF strap when he took on top rated contender Chris Avalos. Avalos had two previous losses in his twenty-seven-fight career, and both had been split decisions versus undefeated opposition. The last of those losses came late in 2011 and since then had amassed a six and zero record with four stoppages. This included good wins over the likes of undefeated Yenifel Vicente and an IBF eliminator against Yautaka Ishimoto.
The fight only went five rounds when Frampton ended the event via a TKO and moved his own record to twenty wins, zero losses and zero draws. This kind of performance is what he needs should he be heading into clashes with the likes of Leo Santa Cruz, Scott Quigg and the avoided Guillermo Rigondeaux who all share his division.
Isa Akberbayev destroys Ruben Angel Mino in first round KO
The cruiserweight scene is largely overlooked for the talents at both heavyweight and light heavyweight. Despite several good fighters, the 176-200lb division doesn’t get the kind of attention that it really deserves. Last night a fighter who isn’t ranked in the top 25 made a big statement in knocking out the once beaten Argentinean fighter Ruben Angel Mino in the very first round.
Tyson Fury secures impressive win over Christian Hammer
Hammer did not have the speed, size or strength to trouble Fury, and Fury seemed to enjoy the night, jabbing away and moving back and forth between stances before the fight was ultimately stopped after the eighth round when Christians corner had seen enough and threw in the towel. This marked Tyson’s eighth stoppage in his past nine outings.
Carl Frampton destroys Chris Avalos over five rounds
The championship bout was televised on AWE-A Wealth of Entertatinment.
After a clinch in round two, Frampton drilled Avalos with a left hook while Avalos thought there was a time out. That shot split Avlaos’ lip. Frampton continued to land hard one-two combinations. Frampton showed some battle scars as he started to develop a a mouse around the right eye.
“The Great Wall” – Taishan Dong Pushes Forward
China’s Taishan Dong faced the toughest challenge of his young professional boxing career Friday night as he opened the Fox Sports 1 broadcast of another “Golden Boy Live” card. The 6’11” giant clearly won the fight to go 3-0 (2KO), but his opponent Roy McCrary, now 3-3 (3KO), proved that Taishan has much, much, much to learn.
McCrary, of Memphis Tennessee, used lateral movement to stay out of harm’s way, occasionally lunging in with a wide left hook. Taishan couldn’t seem to the cut the ring off or be consistently effective with his right hand.
He also ate several hard shots from his opponent, mostly the before mentioned left hook. When McCrary did connect, “The Great Wall” took the punches well and seemed to respond with a mean streak, immediately firing back with bad intentions.
Seldin And Serrano Win
Undefeated WBC number 28 super lightweight Cletus “The Hebrew Hammer” Seldin took his record to 16-0 and 1 NC with 13 KOs scoring a fifth round stoppage of Johnny Garcia (19-3-1, 11 Kos) in a scheduled ten at the Paramount Theatre in Huntington, NY on ESPN 2’s Friday Night Fights.
Seldin, 28, shook Garcia to his boots with a left hook in the fourth and hammered him for the final minute of the round.
Budler Out Points Silvestre: Retains WBA/IBO 105 Lb Titles
In a top quality contest, Johannesburg’s Hekkie Budler (28-1, 9 kos) retained his WBA and IBO minimumweight titles with a unanimous twelve round decision over WBA number 2 contender Jesus Silvestre (30-6, 22 kos) in the main support to Gennady Golovkin – Martin Murray in Monte Carlo on Saturday night. The official scores were 117-110, 115-112, 115-112.
“The Hexecutioner” rated number one by Ring magazine was a clear victor (my score 116-111) but was made to work hard, especially in the opening few rounds when the former WBA interim titlist from Mexico came out attacking from the go.

The top two middleweights in the world squared it off at the Salle des Étoiles in Monte Carlo, Monaco last night with the WBA/IBO regular and WBC interim titles at stake and it seemed only fair for this fight to take place in Europe. Both combatants grew up on opposite ends of this continent but one of them may have inadvertently wandered off it on a regular basis. Murray is strictly branded as a European although as an islander he might have second thoughts about continental bondage. Golovkin’s continental status is a little more complicated as he comes from Kazakhstan and this vast land stretches through parts of Europe and Central Asia. Golovkin could have walked at times with one leg in Europe and the other in Asia. His father is Russian and his mother is Korean, so GGG is the proverbial Eurasian by birth and by country.
