Ghana’s Emmanuel ‘Game Boy’ Tagoe will defend his IBO Lightweight strap against David Fernando Saucedo of Argentina, it has been announced for January 27 next year in Accra.

In a continuation of Multichoice Ghana’s ‘Fight Night Gh’ programme to stage regular top class boxing events and screened across their Supersport tv platforms across Africa and even beyond, the latest show follows after the highly patronized Bukom Banku vs. Bastie Samir thriller back in October this year. And next month’s show which will also be beamed live across the continent is organized in partnership with Box Office Promotions and BabyJet Promotions who promote and manage Tagoe.

Tagoe (27-1, 13 KOs) will step into the ring for the first time in over a year, injuries and other technical issues ensuring he has not fought since annexing the title with a unanimous points decision over Mzonke Fana of South Africa back in December 2016.

Saucedo, a former 2-time world title challenger was initially scheduled to have faced Tagoe in a first defence of the title by the Ghanaian in July but pulled out at the last minute, upon which Argenis Mendez was arranged for Tagoe for a date in September but that also fell through due to the injury suffered by the Ghanaian showman.

Now Tagoe is healed and raring to go and even though it’s not against Mendez as anticipated, the tough talking Ghanaian insists he will not be affected by any talk of ring rustiness or any effects of injury when he goes into battle against the Argentine at Bukom Boxing Arena next month.

“I am on a mission to restore Ghanaian boxing to the top of the world and it continues with this fight. I’ve gone through a lot for this fight and the best satisfaction I can get is to win convincingly for my fans,” Tagoe said at Wednesday’s press conference to announce the fight.

“I’m the only boxer to win 11 titles for Ghana and I’m also Ghana’s only reigning world champion but I want more. My target is to add any of the WBA, IBF or WBC titles to my current collection I’m going to make it happen with the support of my strong team at BabyJet Promotions,” Game Boy added full of confidence.

In full support of Tagoe and other Ghanaian boxers in pursuit of world championship glory are Multichoice who have promised unrelenting drive towards returning Ghana to the very top of world boxing.

“This is not profit driven, we see it more as a corporate social responsibility. We believe there are a lot of talented boxers in Ghana and we want to support them in our own way to become world champions,” said Cecil Sunkwa-Mills, General Manager of Multichoice Ghana.
