Maidana: I hope Mayweather will stand and fight like a man

Maidana: I hope Mayweather will stand and fight like a man

Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs) met with the media earlier today to talk about his upcoming rematch against WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) next month on September 13th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Maidana took credit for forcing Mayweather Jr to fight off the ropes last May instead of Mayweather electing to do so in order to make it interesting for the boxing fans. Maidana says he forced Mayweather to fight that way, yet in the same interview, Maidana says he wants Mayweather to stand and fight him this time like last time.

Maidana plans on using Everlast Powerlock gloves for Mayweather fight

Maidana plans on using Everlast Powerlock gloves for Mayweather fight

In an effort to avoid any problems with his gloves getting approved by WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) in their rematch on September 13th, Maidana plans on wearing the same gloves – Everlast Powerlock – that he used in his first fight against Mayweather last May when Maidana lost a 12 round majority decision at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Maidana has been using the Powerlock gloves and has gotten used to wearing them. Whether Mayweather will say yes to Maidana wearing them a second time is unclear, but there shouldn’t be any reason why Mayweather won’t accept them a second time if they’re truly the same gloves as before.

Mayweather Sr: Floyd Jr’s mind better for rematch with Maidana

Mayweather Sr: Floyd Jr’s mind better for rematch with Maidana

Trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr says his son Floyd Jr’s mind is in a better place for the second fight with Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 Kos) than it was the first time they fought last May at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mayweather Jr had hand problems going into that fight, and he and his fiancé Shantel Jackson had just recently broken up at the time. It was a lot of things happening at around the same time that Mayweather fought Maidana that could have negatively impacted his performance in the ring in that fight.

Mayweather has new fight strategy Maidana won’t be ready for, says Nate Jones

WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) has some tricks that he plans on unveiling on Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs) in their rematch next month, says Mayweather’s training assistant Nate Jones. He’s not saying what those tricks are, but he believes that Maidana won’t be expecting them.

Unless is good at adapting, which he probably isn’t, he’s going to have some problems when he gets in the ring against Mayweather on September 13th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Kenny Bayless selected as referee for Mayweather-Maidana 2 rematch

Kenny Bayless selected as referee for Mayweather-Maidana 2 rematch

On Thursday, the Nevada State Athletic Commission has selected Kenny Bayless as the referee for the Floyd Mayweather Jr vs. Marcos Maidana rematch on September 13th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The previous referee that worked the Mayweather-Maidana I fight was Tony Weeks, who Mayweather was unhappy with because he failed to control the fouling that Maidana did throughout their 12 round bout. Mayweather felt that Weeks had an off night.

The Commission also appointed the following judges for the fight: Dave Moretti, Guido Cavalleri and John McKaie. Hopefully, the judges will score the fight well and not come up with some wild scores like we’ve seen recently with other judges.

Maidana throwing 100 punches per round in training for Mayweather

YouTube video
It seems pretty obvious that Marcos Maidana’s plan to try and beat WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) in their rematch next month is to overwhelm him with punches by throwing as many shots as possible as possible on September 13th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Maidana is reportedly throwing over 100 punches per round during his sparring sessions with the likes of Steve Forbes and Mikey Garcia. In throwing that many punches, Maidana obviously doesn’t have much time to think a lot about throwing the perfect shot because he’s just looking to overwhelm his sparring partners with shots rather than picking his shots.

Ellerbe doesn’t mind if Tony Weeks is picked as ref for Mayweather-Maidana rematch

Ellerbe doesn’t mind if Tony Weeks is picked as ref for Mayweather-Maidana rematch

WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) was disappointed in the performance of referee Tony Weeks for the job that he put in while working Mayweather’s previous fight against the aggressive Argentinian Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs) last May at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Maidana was able to foul Mayweather early and often in the fight in hitting low, throwing elbows and rabbit punches. While you can say the stuff was accidental on Maidana’s part, Weeks failed to take points away from Maidana to help him improve his aim. Maidana was given a warning for a low blow, but no points were taken off.
