A coaches view of the Lomachenko vs Rigondeaux fight Saturday night

Like many of you, I watched the fight last Saturday night with great anticipation. All week long my gym was abuzz with predictions as to who would come out on top. My athletes have competed for professional world titles, have been in the Olympics and have appeared at countless club and amateur level shows and tournaments.

One day a few years back a boy showed up at my gym with all of his worldly possessions in a backpack wanting to become a professional boxer. He had heard about me from a distant relative and came half-way around the world, leaving his wife and 3 year-old daughter behind, to come chase his dream. He knew two words of English…”me champion.”
