Oosthuizen manager is using excuses now for the fight.
I mean first Tommy has to win this weekend. Apparently Tommy’s manager is talking to about other boxers for his seventh title defense.

I would like to see 3G marmalize Groves… I would have rather seen 3G fight Edwin Rodriguez than Oos.. However, this is good, but it takes a long time to get anything going when guys are having 3 month training camps and fighting twice or 3 times a year.. By the time you put yourself into position the target fight you were angling for is gone.

Agreed: Groves vs Oosthuizen would be fantastic for the Commonwealth title(Not IBO) after George has cleaned Anderson & DeFail’s clock’s again!

Oosthuizen vs Groves would be good!

3G isn’t worried about the elevation, prestige, and sanctioning fee… Martinez is not going to be available for a while and he knows it.. He wants Ward and is looking for a path to get at him.

I wonder what the WBA thinks of this move by Golovkin? They strip the real WBA Champion in Geale of his title and in the process will not receive any sanctioning fees (which would have been significant) from the fight with Mundine and now Golovkin takes a non-title fight at Super Middleweight (again no sanctioning fees for the WBA). Surely Golovkin’s team could have found someone the WBA would sanction to defend his interim title (I won’t consider Golovkin a legitimate champ until he fights and beats the linear WBA champ or Martinez. By the way, I am impressed with Golovkin and like his style). It seems to me that the WBA’s actions have not only damaged their reputation further, but also their pocket book!

He has broken bones ans is having knee surgery.

I will post here again laughing my ass off when Tommy get’s Ko’d by just a left hook from no where. Maybe it just is a slight left hook and Tommy hit’s the mat and everyone wonders what the hell happened.

Posted November 5, 2012 6:25 pm

oh yeah golovkin going to get hit in that fight tommy aint the biggest puncher but a good puncher he throws alot of punches he alwasy busy and active he going to have to move when he fight golovkin cause if he stand there with him like he did with marcus johnson he going to be in trouble golovkin going to have to cut the ring off move his head more have his hands up jab to tommy mid section the body is the easy target then the face when facing a tall fighter and golovkin jab is strong when he use it

Posted November 5, 2012 3:54 pm

Yeah man, I hear you, but the same applies in reverse. Tommy is not just gonna stand there and absorb. He’s gonna move and he’s gonna throw punches – probably a lot more punches than GGG and more accurate too. I wonder whether’s GGG’s face can take the amount of combinations that Marcus Johnson took, or will his mug start to look like hamburger after a few rounds.

Posted November 5, 2012 3:42 pm

yeah golovkin defense aint that good he needs to move his head more im sure he work on that it a few lil things he needs to work on

Posted November 5, 2012 3:30 pm

marcus johnson and rowland bryant aint on the level of golovkin all im saying is everybody that face him said he can crack rather it sparring partners or in a real fight they say the guy can punch golovkin is way more accurate then marcus johnson as far as his punches is better technique and timing tommy do got a good chin he tough mentally but if golovkin keep landing on him eventually it going to take a toll on him idk if he knock him out or not we got to see but i know golovkin power need to be respected

Posted November 5, 2012 3:24 pm

Thomas Oosthuizen is a true future star today but if he loses then GGG will take crap for beating a C or B level fighter I’ve watched Oosthuizen plenty and aside from size I don’t see any disadvantages for Gennady. GGG by mid fight KO.

Posted November 5, 2012 2:16 pm

No way man. Tyson could bob, weave, duck, block, use body sway. He could box. GGG just walks in with his hands sometimes up and sometimes by his sides, and hurls bombs. No head movement, minimal defence. Wait until someone hits him.

Posted November 5, 2012 1:57 pm

It will be worse for GGG then. Every time he brings his hands down to hit the body, Tommy will hit him with the combos to the head. Man, you don’t stand square in front of Oosthuizen and expect not to get hit repeatedly. GGG will need to be cagey in order to stand a chance, but then he has a problem with height and reach. That’s why I can’t see any way for GGG to win this one. Tommy has fought guys much bigger than GGG and has never looked like being hurt. You wanna tell me Marcus Johnson and Rowland Bryant can’t bang? They caught Tommy flush loads of times and he never flinched. You can’t out-hustle him and you can’t KO him. A master boxer like Ward could counter him all night and make him reluctant to throw his combinations, but GGG is not a master boxer. He’s a one-dimensional slugger with a huge punch. A huge punch against middleweights. Forget it, man. This is gonna be a rude awakening for the legions of fans that GGG has acquired overnight by knocking out a little Japanese guy and a little Polish guy. Tommy is a big, mean unit. Get used to him. He ain’t going anywhere. He’s fighting on Saturday night at Emperor’s Palace here in Johannesburg, and I will be there to see him put the hurt on Fulgencio Zuniga.

Posted November 5, 2012 1:52 pm

golovkin be hurting crusieweights and heavyweights in sparring even know it just sparring i know he can get tommy respect with his power i like tommy tho i dnt see golovkin walking through him easy at all tommy footwork is pretty good but he do got a habit of being against the ropes and fight on the inside if he do that i see golovkin tearing his body up

Posted November 5, 2012 12:52 pm

Fact is no one have seen Golovkin against a tuff oponent. You all can say how guys are ducking him, but I don’t see it like that. You have guys hit much harder than Golovkin still they have fights. Lots of guys here on this site are talking like this guy is some sort of half-god or unhuman. I also thought Mike Tyson was unbeateble, cos he hit so hard. Golovkin is just hype just like Tyson was back then, with all my respect to Mike.

This is a fantastic slap in the chops with a wet kipper to the WBA. Will they re-instate Geale as “super” champion now or make the title vacant & sanction interim, ordanary & super ordanary title fights. God I wish I had the contract to make there belts. I could employ half the population of china to produce them!

Posted November 5, 2012 5:10 am

GGG is the poster-boy for plastic surgery when Tommy’s done with him.

Posted November 5, 2012 3:21 am

Big mistake, GGG. Tommy is way too big. He also has very fast, accurate hands, a great chin, and great lateral movement. You cheerleaders and fan-boys are gonna get the shock of your lives. The mere fact that you’re all in the first flushes of your romantic crush on GGG doesn’t mean that the laws of boxing are suddenly re-written. Here’s one that you may want to bear in mind: a good big man usually beats a good little man. Here’s another: a great chin almost always beats a great punch. Lol, you guys are a joke. What do you think Tommy’s going to be doing while GGG “wears him down with body blows”? Standing there and wondering what to do? Or nailing GGG 3 or 4 times to the head every time the little Russian drops his hands to throw a body punch? Oosthuizen by wide decision or by TKO on cuts. And I wanna say for the record that this is a pointless fight. I’m sick of all this masturbatory catchweight nonsense. Tommy should be beating up on guys his own size and working towards a fight with Froch some time in late 2013.

Posted November 5, 2012 3:16 am

@Brendan : I understand Geale’s decision… he definitely deserves a payday and I don’t believe he’s scared.
But as a fight fan, I don’t get a cut of Geale’s profits so I’d rather see him fight Golovkin than someone like Mundine who has actively avoided any fighter of note in the last few years (INCLUDING Golovkin back in 2010 and then more recently Austin Trout) and been KO’ed by a crude fighter in Garth Wood.
The fight fan in me has absolutely no interest in a Geale-Mundine fight, even though the logical side of me knows that it’s the best option for Geale personally.

And true… Geale’s pro achievements are better than Golovkin’s but you have to be objective when saying these things. Geale was seen as a low-risk opponent and so he was given opportunities (i.e. Sylvester and Sturm) that he’s capitalized on in awesome fashion. Those opportunities are just not being presented for Golovkin as he’s too high risk.
Case in point, Sturm avoided Golovkin for 2 years… not to mention, he bypassed a contractual obligation to fight Golovkin in order to fight Geale.

Posted November 5, 2012 2:27 am

To Tark… you are right ,Golovkin fighting Abraham is probably not going to happen ,,but its just boxing talk ,,,just like a fantasy fight between Ward vs Mayweather will never happen but we just want to imagine who would win ….

Posted November 5, 2012 1:45 am

Geale has achieved more than Golovkin in the pro ranks. Only a complete twat would think Golovkin was a better option than Mundine for Geale. Geale has been trying to get a rematch with Mundine for 3 years. It will be his biggest payday yet and will increase his following in Australia by a huge margin. The alternative is to fight Golovkin, a virtually unknown fighter who while a great up and comer has not achieved what Geale has, just todefend a title from a governing body with up to 3 champions at a single weight division for no money. I guess it’s obvious the guy who flew to Germany twice to do the impossible and what many great fighters are to scared to do is obviously running scared. There’s a great bloke fighting out of somewhere in Africa people are saying is the real thing. Don’t know his name but Geale should find him and fight him. Just to prove he isn’t running scared.

Posted November 5, 2012 12:31 am

Awesome fight! Oosthuizen is no joke. There is a reason why Froch turned him down as an opponent for his “day off” fight.
The only criticism I have is that Golovkin/K2 should be pushing to be on big undercards instead of trying to headline. They’re going to struggle to build a fan base this way, and in turn, have a really hard time forcing the other champions to step up to the plate (i.e. the financial reward remains low and the visible risk is amplified, assuming he continues to win in devastating fashion).
On the other hand, if they can showcase him on the undercard of another middleweight or even junior or super middleweight championship fight, it gives a direct comparison to other champions to a larger audience and THEN they will start calling more for the other champs to fight.
At the moment, it’s only really the hardcore fans that appreciate Golovkin’s abilities (and how obvious it is that other guys want nothing to do with him).

Posted November 4, 2012 10:26 pm

sal.o….. The idea that Abraham would fight 3G is weird in the first place… AA has a minor title so he doesn’t fight major opponents… 3G is after Ward.. He’s not trying to compete with guys like Mehdi Bourdla for a shot at Abraham.

Posted November 4, 2012 9:25 pm

tommy is a pretty good inside fighter for a tall fighter but if he fight golovkin on the inside the fight can end early tommy best bet is to stay on the outside use his jab and get off first with combinations golovkin can be hit but the way tommy be getting hit aint a good sign for him against golovkin but i see this being a exciting fight

Posted November 4, 2012 8:01 pm

I don’t think Golovkin will Ko him right away I think he will work the body on the inside and use upper cuts and then a few shots to the head. In the end I think Tommy will get caught with a left hook that will knock him down. Probably at some point the ref will have to stop the fight will GGG clinically tears him apart with body and head shots either on the ropes or in the corner.

easy fight for 3G. Oosthuizen is going to get hurt.

I can’t wait for this fight!

Geale ducking Golovkin to face shopworn Mundine. Surprised? Me neither. Golovkin should stay at middleweight. Don’t screw with your weight just because everyone’s ducking you. Put your stamp on your own division and shame the others publicly until they can duck you no longer.

To Tark ,,you are right that Abraham does nothing for the first 5 rounds or more ,,,but he can sure take it ,,Golovkin will probably get frustrated not being able to get Abraham out of there ,,,If Abraham starts to land on a tired Golovkin it could get interesting ,,Of course this is only estimations ..that why boxing is so interesting …

Quillin’s just the latest version of Mike Jones. That’s all.

Posted November 4, 2012 10:30 am

Big Al

Quillin’s a walking deadman. In his last fight he knocked that dude down like 5 times and the fight was still pretty close, which means that Quillin must’ve fought like crap to pull out a win with only a couple of those knockdowns being the decider. Quillin is ripe for a scalping.

Posted November 4, 2012 10:29 am

Golovkin is a man of his word. He said he’d be willing to move up to super middleweight and that’s what he’s doing. Can’t wait to see him fight again. Geale and Quillin can’t hide under the bed forever.

Mick the Marmalizer

I gotta say I’m a bit baffled by this. Golovkin has just been handed the WBA 160Lb title on a silver platter & he’s decided to take on one of the most promising hounds in the World @ 168Lb. Thomas Oosthuizen looks to be the best South African pugilist since Brian Mitchell & I’d love to see him fight Commonwealth champion George Groves in the near future. GGG should stay at 160Lb & look for unification to prove who’s the #1 middleweight in the World before weight hopping. All said & done though it’s gonna be a fantastic contest!

third world

i find it sad that almost all the comments in response to this article have absolutely no relevance and are also based on fairytales. golovkin goes outside the box by todays standards and picks a top ranked threat in a class above his or lose, and i pick win, golovkin sets the bar high in time where very few champions are willing to go.kudos.

Posted November 4, 2012 3:20 am

sal.o …. Nobody as slow and inept as Abraham could ever win a round off Golovkin. All AA does for the first 7 or 8 rounds is hide behind his gloves and hope his opponent runs out of gas. That’s a sure formula for defeat at the top rungs of the sport. That’s why AA’s cherry picking opponents since the Sup 6.

Hype Job History

Just like Bute, Lacey and many others before him. GGG is a hype job and will be found out as soon as he stops running from the Top fighters like Martinez, Geale, Sturm, Chavez Jr, Pirog, Macklin, Murray, Quillin etc.

Posted November 4, 2012 1:35 am

John you are correct ,,,Abraham would certainly beat,, maybe even stop Golovkin,,there are two ways to beat a big puncher , ,,( One) you have to be a very slick boxer ,,,(Two) you have to be able to take the big shots and be able to fire back ..And i believe Abraham can take it and hurt Golovkin,,,,,Golovkin does not look like he has a strong chin..

Posted November 3, 2012 11:31 pm

I’m very disappointed… Edwin Rodriguez accepted an offer to fight 3G.. I guess they had another offer out to Oos and he grabbed it for a lot less money.

Posted November 3, 2012 11:04 pm

Mick the Marmalizer

Financially this fight should be put on hold. Between Golovkin, Oosthuizen, Groves, Ward, Froch, DeGale, Bute & Stevenson things could really cook @ 168Lb in the next year or two!

Posted November 3, 2012 9:43 pm

Golovkin has more SKILLS than Abraham. Abraham would be SPANKED.

Posted November 3, 2012 9:36 pm

I think Arthur Abraham vs Golovkin is a good matchup. I don’t know much of Golovkin, but reading all the stories on this site he’s a banger just like Abraham is. So put them two in a ring and lets see who comes out victorious. I go for Abraham, cos he can take big bangs and he give them too.

Posted November 3, 2012 8:06 pm

Golovkin by stoppage.

Golovkin v. Pirog…. Why doesn’t this fight get made? Or How’s Golovkin v. Marco Antonio Rubio? I’m pretty sure those two wouldn’t shy away from any title opportunity as they have nothing to lose.

Have you noticed Sergio Martinez is all for a sudden quiet?

Posted November 3, 2012 7:12 pm

You have some people who say Golovkin is untested, however if no one will fight him then they will always accuse him of this. It’s a bloody disgrace that he has to go to the weight above to get a fight – the top middleweights should be ashamed of themselves.

Posted November 3, 2012 6:45 pm

Good for Ooster . . . Ostter . . . Mr. Ostermann weekend for taking on Golovkin.

Posted November 3, 2012 6:09 pm

He isnt ducking anyone

Posted November 3, 2012 4:53 pm

Although I think Golovkin is a good fighter he is untested. With Daniel Geale. Why would he fight Golovkin for 6 digits, when he can fight Mundine for 7 digits, and revenge hes lose, and it will be the biggest fight in Australia. I think will beat Mundine, then defend against mandatory IBF Challenger Sam Soliman. Then fight Golovkin late 2013. Which will be a cracka, and there will big build up for the fight and more money. So Daniel Geale is ducking anyone.

Uff-dah … think it’s hard for GGG to find a willing middleweight now? Once he demolishes this guy … these other middleweights will be tinkling down their legs. Their common excuse will be “high-risk / low reward” .. or something about not wanting to fight an “unknown boxer” … “GO MAKE A NAME FOR YOURSELF & GET BACK TO ME” blah blah blah. These other middles need to ditch their satin bras & silk panties!!

Posted November 3, 2012 2:39 pm

i see this fight being tough for golovkin then people think tommy is a skillled fighter with a good chin the problem with tommy is he dosent use his height all the time he fight on the inside to much that a mistake against golvkin i think tommy height and size and speed can make it tough for golovkin but golovkin such a beast i think he going to stalk tommy goes to his body chop that tree down i be shocked if this fight do get made tho

Posted November 3, 2012 1:24 pm

WOW!!!!! This i never seen coming! Golovkin is a small middleweight, and Tommy is a tall Supermiddleweight. Golovkin could fight at light middle!! I cant see Oosthuizen being able to tame the beast that is Golovkin.
